son picked up hundred lbs or so of clip on WW from a scrap yard. got several battery cable ends in the batch. NOT the interior plates, the cable ends that go on the batt. posts. they ok to use?

IIRC the battery cable ends are probably pure lead, while the clip ons are going to turn out harder and melt sooner.

Your cable ends will be the last to melt. If there are any WWs left after the cable ends melt , they must be zinc. I sometimes get some pure lead stick on weights that just don't want to melt when I think i'm up to temp.
When wax flux autoignites , you are just right. Anything not melting probably is not lead based.

I've used cable ends before. I don't think they're pure lead anymore. They seem to melt with the rest.

BTW- the really good cable ends are brass.

I put the cable ends aside and save them for my muzzle loader.

ok. thanks. ALSO... haven't i read here b4 somewhere that you can flux the melt w/ wood? i have tons of mesquite shavings and was thinking about dropping some into the pot every half pot (20 lb lee).
