Gee, I asked this same question a couple years back and was eviscerated by Staff and members for even mentioning such an idea. How times change.

Are .22RF's CAST boolits? And yes, I remember Bret's experience as well.

Sometimes it not the question at hand, but how you ask it..and when.

And things evolve over time here,, and everywhere else.

I really don't understand this aversion to having a 22 thread. If the argument is, it has nothing to do with casting boolits, well, neither does the recipe section, neither does the humor and off topic, politics and religion sections, swaging is borderline, not to be callous but the in remembrance section too. Most, if not every shooter I know has several 22's, or rimfires in general. It's not like someone is going to go to someones house and hold a gun to their head and force them to read the rimfire section either, it's pretty simple to NOT click on a section you don't have interest in. I rarely go into the recipe section, because I have no interest in recipes here at cast boolits. Not everyone who casts boolits cooks, but I would be willing to bet that 99% of the people who cast boolits have at least one rimfire. And yes, I am well aware there are forums dedicated to nothing but rimfire, but they aren't the same people who we all have become friends with here on this board. Would you rather discuss your hobby with a total stranger, or with people you know already? Do what you want to do, obviously, but keep in mind the humble rimfire is the basis for the entire realm of metallic cartridges. Without the 22 short, where would metallic cartridges be now?

Hey, when some peoples gears turn that faaaast they are bound to make a little noise. Slow gears can be made quiet more easily. ;)

I would be willing to bet 99% of us had a 22RF as a first rifle and without that we may have never progressed to the point we are at now. Glad to see the new section added.

Actually I started off with a 243 SAKO. Then many years later after many centerfirers I bought my first 22 RF. Now as a kid and teen I shot a lot of 22's but they weren't mine. Again as a kid some of the first guns I shot were a Colt SAA 357 mag and Colt SAA 22 Rf.

Currently I have quite a few 22 hand guns and only one 22 rifle.

YES!

Why not..
On some third world countries, 22RF are reloadable, but it took a hell lot of effort..

maybe with the ingenuity of the CASTBOOLITS members, someone could came up with a simple technique to reload cast boolits on them :)

Yeah!!

I own a custom Built 10-22 which is a tack driver. But my first Rifle a Remington 514 single shot bolt action that remains in my safe. It was my start in shooting. Mom used to take me to town once a week to buy bullets with my allowance, just holding it brings back many good memories of shooting and family.

How do you reload 22RF ?

That's a good question. I can see using the cases for jackets.. and I can see even reloading it but how do you prime it?

Here's my 30 second engineering response.

Use the priming compounds discussed else where here, in solution formula. Put a drop in the base of the case then spin it up with an electric drill motor, let dry. The idea being that the inertial forces from the rotation will force the priming compound up into the rim groove. I do know that .44 rimfire cases have been found on battle fields will several rim marks and it is thought that the tribes were able to reload the cartridges.

HI,
Well I have shot a lot of 22 lately, the cost :holysheep of components has forced me to do this.
Of course there was a sticker shock on 22 ammo at 1st too!
have a 22 pistol, & am thinking of getting a 22 rifle.

First rifle was a Remington 721T and I wish I still had it. When I turned sixteen I traded it off for a Schmidt Rubin

Late for the vote, but would have to say YES! First rifle/firearm was a Remington 513T purchased for 32.00 at 7 years old. Mama took me to get it. Still have it. Many fond memories at the poor folk shooting gallery (trash dump at rats). Loved and still love it. That rifle was the basis of my firearms training and many thousands of rounds went through it. I believe training on it before service it what helped me through Nam. God was also the most important reason, but hitting what I shot at was the 2nd one. Thank you, LORD.
