Well, the longer/heavier bullet may or may not have an advantage, depending on what you want to do with them.

The longer bullet with a greater sectional density will give you better results if you are doing long range target shooting. They will hold their velocity a smidge better than shorter/lighter bullets.

If you are just shooting 100 yard targets, plinking and shooting for enjoyment, I don't see any advantage.

For hunting, longer/heavier bullet deliver more mass and energy to the critter, all things being equal with they seldom are.

Like most questions on this board, the answer to yours is...it depends.

This design works very well for me in my A3's and 1917's as it has that long nose/bore-rider section that the lands like to guide. The 284 does real well in them too, but is heavier. I usually use the 284 in my 03 Springfields and Garands as they have 4 groove barrels and seem to prefer the longer body section of the 284. My mold is an older one so it casts at a larger size than what you might get nowadays. LLS

:coffeecom While I do not own a 311299 or a 311284, I find the Saeco 301 to be very good in my 4 groove 1903-A3 and much better than the Saeco 315.

Yes it depends on what you are going to use it for. The SAECO #315 is a match bullet and if shot at a muzzle velocity of 1750 FPS should still be super sonic at 300 yards and with the number of grease grooves lets you shoot a lot. I have the SAECO #315 and have fired 450 shot so far with out cleaning the barrel and it still shoots great. If the weather holds out this week end it will have close to another 200 shots through it with out cleaning. I have the 311299 to try but I do not think I will be able to get as many shots because it has less grease then the SAECO #315.
