In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Attended memorial services this morning in Freemont, NY. Tapps still brings tears to my eyes. Leaving right now for another service in Obernburg. Memorial day is a High Holly Day to me. Semper Fi!

Great poem best read aloud for my ears. I like the way the cadence flows.

My grandfather was in the 3rd ID at the Marne. I flew the flag that draped his coffin today.

My son is named for his great Uncle Jim killed in action December 19th in Belgium.

Today my son's great grandfather marked what is likely his last memorial day. He was the color guard during the memorial day ceremony at rochester's battle of the bulge memorial. The photos are old because I forgot my camera.

It's not about barbeques at our house.

My fore fathers served in nearly every confrontation we've known since the Revolution. My great granfather served Army artillery in France WWI , my grandfather served in the USN got out went Civil service and to Hawii he spent 11 days carring the lost from Pearl , my uncle received a Korea ribbon ,my Dad lost an eye and was 4F for Viet Nam , my daughter is USN, my son is Army currently in Afganistan. My Dads Dad did 2 years of mounted cavalry , and an uncle who's name is lost to me just now stole his fathers horse to join the Confederate Army.

It's a day of pride sorrow and thanks for me.
