well...antique for some people. is from the 70's. and not in bad shape at all. very little rust. is an RCBS. i have been wire wheeling off a little rust and soaking it on diesel. had hoped to find a model or serial# on it but no luck so far. anyway, my question is, will todays sizer dies, top punches etc fit into it and work ok?

To the best of my knowledge RCBS has only had two lube sizer's and they both use the current Lyman style dies.

After you get it cleaned up you should be good to go!

As far as I'm aware all the RCBS sizers take the same dies and punches.

Hollow lube unless you choose solid, melt it down and then pour it into the lubrisizer. I do it this way (the solid stick) so there are not air pockets in the lube and because I am cheap and can get a solid stick of Lar's lube at the same price as a hollow. www.lsstuff.com/index.html

i bought one in the mid 90's that was still new in the box but the ummm cosmoline and other anti rust stuff didnt quite do so good ,the oil or what ever they coated it with kinda mottled on there forever but the rust wasnt major ( all surface-face appeal defects) never found/noted a serial number alli ever saw was on the side of the barrel mine's cast with "rcbs "w/copywrite circle and on the other side " lube a matic " both running straight up and down ,the newer one i believe has "l a m II " on it , these are all that i am familiar with from rcbs
+ on the other post ( i like the lyman sizing dies tho - they are "smoother" finished IMO )

MORE QUESTIONS...............!!
1. in the midway catalog they list the RCBS sizer dies for .30 cal as sizes .308, .309, .310 dia. the rifle is a 30-06 w/maybe 50 rds fired thru it. (1972 production WIN mod 70). the boolit i am casting (180 gr. flat point) mikes to 309.5 dia. so....which sizer should i get? will only be used for short range hunting.

2. which top punch #? can't figure out their codes.

3. all the above questions also apply to a 1911 .45acp and a .40 cal S&W M&P. (pistols for plinking of course)

THANKS IN ADVANCE

I am using a Lachmiller sizer/luber that is the Grandfather of your RCBS and I use Lyman dies/top punches in mine. You will be ok with Lyman sizers.
I did have a very minor problem with a old style RCBS sizer die, put in the lathe and took .003 off the lip and it works great now. If you have this problem, you could find a bubby with a lathe or with a little wet or Dry paper will take it down or send it to me, I will do it for you N/C.

Buckshot here makes great dies that will work and he will make them to whatever diameter you want. His price is fair and his work is excellent.............one of the nicest finished dies I've had.

As for top punches you can many times find the top punch info by going directly to the mold manufactures site or you may find some useful info here:

http://www.castpics.net/

On the left side there is a section called, "Top Punch References"

There was a slight lip where the o ring is, I don't have but one of the RCBS dies so I don't know if that was a defect on that one or if it was standard. The die wouldn't go into my luber without forcing it, so I removed the "lip" and it worked fine. Like I said if you have that problem and no was to remove it PM me and I will do it for you, no charge, it take about 5 sec. with a lathe. martin

actually i do have a lathe, but its a cheap harbot frieght chicon 9x12(?) that i only use on non critical projests. i also have a GOOD wood lathe that i couls chuck up the die into and take off a bit w/some metal sand paper. i guess.

Your lathe should do fine, if needed, this isn't a moon shot. I have a 9x20 that I have used for years for a thousand and one little jobs.
Back to the RCBS sizer die, it was also marked .358 and after running some bullits through it they were .357, so I alway wonder if it was a factory second or something. I could have called RCBS and I am sure that they would have replaced it- good people-. But with a little time on the lathe it is now .3585 and that works great in my S&W 27. I shot some in it 2 days ago and NO leading at 1320fps Chrono'ed, WW,water dropped, GC, next no GC's to see if they lead. Sorry :hijack:

OK, cleaned it up a little more and found LAM11 on the side, if that means anything important. other than now i know what model it is.
