Someone gave me several hundred 215 gr .44 (non gas check) boolits. I'd like to use them up in my Ruger SBH with powder I have on hand if possible. I've got some W296, H110, 2400, AA#5, TiteGroup, and Bullseye.

I suppose Bullseye and TiteGroup would result in pretty bad leading... what about AA#5 or 2400?

Would point of aim shift too much with this light boolit to be worth the trouble?

Thanks - Randy

Any powder there that you list will work as long as you load each to the pressure level compatible with your hardness lube combination. And do they fit? The worse the fit, the narrower the range. Without knowing that I can't give you a starting range or powder really. Actually I use all of those. Just depends.

If you don't know, then I would start mid range with 9 grains of AA5 and work up in 1/2 grain increments till you become dissatisfied. That point is your top. I start mid-range because it is easier for me to go either direction in powder speed with less error than if I start one end or the other.

Once you have those ranges, you can interpolate for the other powders.

As Bass suggests, all will work if you do all the "right things" he suggests, however I think you will get the best overall results with the powders on the faster side of the scale. In my experience, the slower powders work better with normal (240-250g),to heavy boolits in the .44 mag.
In my Smiths, 215 to 225g boolits are worth about 1 revolution on the rear sight screw for 25 to 55 yd shooting. My Smiths are all 4 or 5 inchers.

I've used a lot of commercial 215 gr .44 bullets in my .44s. I loaded them over 6 gr Bullseye or 8.5 gr Unique. Both loads ran about 850 out of my 4" Anaconda and 900+ fps out of my 6 & 6 1/2" Western Marshal and Ruger BHFT. I found all commercial cast bullets with the hard wax lubes leaded with both those powders and 2400 also. I either washed the hard wax lube off and relubed with Javelina or LLA. Sometimes just a coat of LLA without removing the hard wax lube prevents leading with the Bullseye and Unique but not so with heavier 2400 loads.

Nothing at all wrong with a PB. Load for the alloy, not the base.

Not a recommendation by any means, but I would think between 5.0 and 7.5 grains of Bullseye would be what some folks would suggest

I have been using 5 gr titegroup with 180/214/240 pills without issue in my 44mag and 44 special. It is a fun target load for the kids and me.
