I got back out with the CZ 527 today, and was happy to see the Bushnell scope had easily kept it's zero. I had only gotten dialed in at 50 yards, so today it the 100 yard turn. That went well enough, and then it was time to try out some of my new cast boolits at 100 yards. Results were interesting....

First, the light 16.0 AA#1680 grain load...and I didn't realize how light it was until I discovered how far the slug dropped! The second group I held over approximately 6 inches, using the multi-X recticle on the Bushnell scope. Nice feature, that. It was also interesting to hear the boom...and then the boolit going through the paper.

This was a decent sighting in group at 100. BTW, the taped over group next to it is from the 123gr FMJ I was sighting the scope in with.

Shoot 5 for a REAL group. 3 shot groups are for sighting in. :)

I tried an 18.0 grain load, more oopmh, but still had to hold 3 inches over.

Cleanup was once again a cinch, no leading, the air dropped wheel weight boolits and the 30 caliber gas checks did thier jobs well.

This is an ongoing experiment, of course, but I think I can say the cast gas checked boolits will definately do the job, when I find the right powder charge. 8)

Great going!:drinks:

It's interesting that the boolit arc is visible in the angle of impact on the target - that's assuming the target was perfectly vertical.

Have you considered a heavier charge of slower powder for higher velocity without raising chamber pressure?

Target was vertical, camera taking the pic wasn't perfectly perpendicular.
I have to use what powders I have, which include H4895, H335, and the aforementioned AA#1680. This is all uncharted territory for me, will be loading some heavier loads very soon.

looks like the FJM's are about the same accuracy wise as your cast boolits, minus the drop.

Good shooting!

Don't forget to play with lube too.

Yeah, Blammer, I was getting my best accuracy from Soft Points, 123 Hornady's, but running really short of those. I got some 2 3/4-3" groups with those at 200 yards, would love to replicate that with cast boolits.
BTW, all shots are fired seated unsupported, I have no rests/rifles bags/Lead Sled or anything like that. Don't even have a sling yet.

I sold off all my AK's and still have an unopened case of Lapua 7.62x39. I just spent a couple of hours trying to find a 7.62x39 bolt gun, just to find out that the CZ 527 and the BARS-4-1 are the only game in town. Lo and behold, after making a post on another subject, I read your post. I really want a 527. Not just to shoot the 1200 rounds of Lapua, but to reload the brass generated with either the Lyman 31141 or 311284, both molds I have.

Needless to say, I will follow your progress with great interest. Now all I have to do is find a CZ 527 less than the list of around $700

Bass, all I have is Lee Liquid Alox, seems to work so far. Wouldn't even know how to pan lube.
paborn, this is the lightest handiest little rifle yet! 5.9 pounds without scope, 18.5 inch barrel, lotsa fun to shoot. czforum.com has more info on CZ rifles. :)

Seems these have gone up in price the past couple years. I got mine 4 years ago for around $550.

It was also interesting to hear the boom...and then the boolit going through the paper.

Is it from hitting the paper or just the echo?

Nope, it was slapping through, very distinct sound. Sloooow boolit. :)

Don't have a cz, or the lee version of the C.E Harris bullet. I do have the original NEI mould, and a Ruger 77 in that calliber. 22 grains of Relooader 7 with the boolit sized to .311 (heat treated @ 455 degrees) and lubed w/Felix lube gets around 1inch at a hundred yards. The brass is IMI and primers CCI.
The Ruger is a full sized rifle, with a factory Ruger trigger. I have been interested in the CZ527 for a long time for its trigger and portability.

Would love to, but I only have LLA, Winchester brass, Remington 9.5 primers, and a Lee mould. :) The sum total of reloading components for sale in this 1.5 horse town is two 1000 count boxes of Federal shotgun primers.
The single set trigger is incredible, don't know how I lived wihtout it all these years. Treid shooting my Enfield once after a session with the 527, felt like I was wrestling a soggy snake. This little carbine is a blast.
Here's some groups with J-word bullets from before.

This is what I hope to replicate or beat with cast. :)
