Well after much reading on here and gathering equipment and material, I cast my first boolits this afternoon. This is soooo cool. I used a Lyman 457193 mold and after prepping it I made my first pour and was waiting to see what it would drop. As soon as I cut the sprue and opened the mold out dropped the prettiest little boolit. Of course it was a little wrinkled but after two more I was dropping good boolits. Unfortunately incoming rain forced me to quit:( and I only got a small taste of whats to come. Can't wait to get going again.

Here's a pic of some of them.

Your hook! Great job on the first casting session. What are you loading these in?
If you think you are excited now wait until you get a few multi cavity moulds and are casting boolits by the 1000's. You are gonna shoot more just so you can have an excuse to cast more.

no_ 1, I'll be loading these for a 1895gs in 45/70. I'm also toying with the idea of casting for a 6.5x55 Swede that I have collecting dust in my gun locker. It's over a 100 years old, made in 1899 and I think it would be awesome to cast some boolits for it and hunt with it.

You might not even have to size them for the 1895. If you have a fired case from it see if an unsized boolit will fit in the case. If not size to basically the inner diameter of the fired brass and your good to go.

Nice job on the casting, there is not a more satisfying feeling then flinging your own lead down range. I myself want to get a big bore lever in the future. Next thing you know your neighbors cars or going to be shimmying down the road lol. :bigsmyl2:

Welcome to another aspect of the shooting hobby!

Casting your own is a smart move. You'll end up shooting far more often and your accuracy will improve no matter how good it is now.

Welcome to the CB hobby. You will love shooting them even more because you made them.
