to make it effective hunting boolit.

Seems like it it not useful otherwise so would it pay to convert my mold to HP and hunt with it, or just pass it along to someone to get some use out of it?

Everything I have ever read about it say nothing good and the HP might well make it useful.

Anyone out there ever get a certain kalifornia mule rider to HP a DC mold?

Why not just drill the ones you want to hunt with?

I have had this character do several HP conversions, he is top notch.

I have a HP'd widowmaker .38 RN. It's very accurate. Is it worth HPing? Probably but you'll have to decide. I know it impresses people at the range. Probably driven to +P velocities, it would make a decent defensive round./beagle

I bought a .358 RN mold for one reason and one reason only: To stay proficient with my speedloaders.

And other than that, I have no real use for them.

If your HP is large enough, it will be quite effective even at 38sp vel. The 158gr LRN was never intended as a stopper, just to be reliable & accurate. HP will certainly make it better, only you can decide if it's worth the money. You could just buy 500LSWCHP from Speer or Hornady & load those, practice w/ the LRN.

The 358311 is a VERY accurate boolit. With a HP, and a weight of 145-150g, it would probably be a pretty good go to round for taking care of various critters running around the woods. I'm sure in a .35 cal rifle it would be a good light load as well.

One thing I've always heard is that, when it comes to rifle boolits, a HP always makes a given boolit a bit more accurate. Something to do with a shift in balance of the boolit. However, in short pistol boolits I'm not sure how this affects the accuracy. Maybe some of the others can chime in.

Its my experience that if you shoot soft boolits that t makes no difference what point they have at velocities in excess of 1400 fps. They all turn into an inside out mushroom.

The 358311 HP works very well in the .38 Special, cast of 1:1 WW to lead, and loaded over 6.5 grains of HS-6 to 1000 fps.

I wouldn't hesitate to do it...
