I'm considering jumping on the .460 405gr NOE Group Buy. I have the RD 350, the RD 425, and the Lee 457193 for my .450. All shoot well. I was thinking about picking up this mold in a RG2 with hollowpointed cavities. I thought this might provide a mid-weight boolit with the option of hollowpointing them.

I'm also considering having a .477 400gr GC boolit mold made for my .480. I have the Lee 325gr WFNGC and the 400gr LFNPB. The pistol likes the 325 (but doesn't love it) and hates the 400 (leading and poor accuracy). I'm thinking about having this mold able to produce HPs as well.

My questions are:

Will there be much value in a hollowpointed boolit for hunting with this rifle (1895M) and/or this pistol (SRH .480 Ruger)?

What alloy should I be using to get good expansion without fragmentation?

How fast should I go (or not go) to get the expansion without just having the front of the boolit break away.

Either way, I'd still like a .460 GC boolit midway between the 350 and the 425. This GB could be it!

Thanks for your insight!

John, he who has much testing of the very questions your asking is Glen. I heartily recommend his articles.

The most complete Glen E. Fryxell aticle index on the net (http://www.lasc.us/ArticlesFryxell.htm)

Read all of his articles on alloys, HP's etc., you'll be educated.
