I am using 180 grain TC from a saeco mold and my OAL has to be 1.083 just to get it to chamber. Anything longer and it will not chamber. Does anyone have a suggestion as to where to start using unique powder? All my manuals say 5.1-5.5 grains of unique with an OAL of 1.125-1.135. :violin:

I have had the same issue with the .40 using Lee TC boolits.
I think you would be safe with the 5.1 gr of Unique, and work up from there.
I used a throating reamer on my bbl and got the max COAL. It seems to be the usual practice to just run the chambering reamer to proper headspace, and neglect the throating reamer in auto bbls.

Is it because the throat is too small or the boolit too big? My HK eats up the .401" TC boolits, I will soon try .402" dia. boolits.

I got the same problem with a 5906 SW. Barrel slugs .3555 and .356 bullets are a no go unless I make them so short that they look like a .380 .
By contrast I can use .357 bullets in my P-95 at any length that leaves some bullet in the brass.

If you are concerned just drop your starting load dow a tenth of a grain or two.

It will be fine w/ starting loads of Unique or wSF & just work the load up. A chronograph will help get you there.
