I've been resurrecting a Lyman 450; with stamped steel operating handle, (about 1980 vintage) Does anyone have information on serviceable, locally available O-rings (Lowes, Home Depot) for the pressure nut? Or should I just contact Lyman to order them?
Thanks

two months ago I ordered two o'rings, two extra of threaded sizer die retention nuts, plus one new reservoir cap. I don't think it even broke a $20... including the shipping... if it did...it wasn't by much.

All this was straight from Lyman.

I went to the Lyman web site and gathered the part numbers from the online owners manual. Then I called them. Talked to a wonderful sounding woman who knew her company product.

The manual was for the 4500, but those parts I listed were the same for the 450.

I had thought about local purchase, but then thought... do I really want to drive all over hunting these when I haven't even called Lyman. So I called, the price was right, bought the other items also. Then it was story over...dang, and back to yard work...... oh, and now I know I have the right parts.;)

Just my .02, if it helps.

Thanks Johnny,
That's where I was leaning, direct from Lyman. I was out & about today & thought if any O-rings were suitable, I'd hunt some down. This sizer was part of a Lyman casting set my Dad bought me back in '79 or '80 and has a sentimental value. I've been using both Star's & a Saeco for years, but I'm going to put the 450 back into service as well.

I ordered from Lyman and then purchased extra ones from An Ace hardware affiliate. I got the replacement handle and linkage assembly From Lyman as well.

Lyman took care of a couple of split ingot mold handles for me this week. It looks like they have reduced the size of the handle by about 1/8" and they can split when you drive them on the tang to install them. They sent the replacements pronto! Works for me!

I hope you had them throw in a bushing wrench for the die retainer nut, they work well.

+1 for the lady at Lyman who knows the products. She helped me about 3 years ago when I rebuilt my old 450. I replaced virtually everything but the casting for somewhere around $30. It might as well be a new machine now.
