assuming we are talking about plinking/target ammo only, not match or hunting.

what is your reject rate for unsuitable boolits(in %) for a casting session.

what makes them unsuitable for your use?

I have no time or patiences for a mould which doesn't produce so I've sent several back where they came from. Rejects shouldn't be mould related due to fault of the maker. Enough said.

For my own use I only do a visual inspection of base & driving bands. If it looks purty it goes in the container for sizing & lube. Reject rate is less than 1%.

For my casting operation, especially using 92-6-2 [standard hardball alloy], rejects hardly come once moulds are up to temp & proper cadence observed.

My statement above is concerning sixgun bullets..........Creeker

On occasion, after pre-heating my mold, I have run 20# without a single reject. But most times I will have one or two.
The ones I have to watch are the TL designs so I don't get everything too hot. Hot spots will not fill out.
But then, I have been casting stuff for over 59 years. Started with fishing sinkers when I was young.

As long as I have good fill out, they go in the keep pile. A steel plate won't care if the bullet has a few wrinkles. Once the mold is hot, which isn't long with aluminum molds, the reject rate is near zero. Using a 6 cavity mold, I ocassionally don't get all 6 cavitys filled properly. I usually know I'm going to have a reject or two before I open the mold.

im still running 10% or so rejects, mostly wrinkles, but some bad fill out at the base too.

One percent or thereabouts.

Depends, Rifle boolits get looked @ closer that 40 S&W.

It really depends on the mold. I have some molds that will yield only about a 2 - 3 % rejection rate once the mold is hot and the alloy is the correct. temp.

I also have some molds that run closer to a 10% - 15 % rejection rate.

I guess I throw back about 2-3%. Usually poor fill-my fault

+1 for Creeker - I imagine about 1%, once everything is up to temp. Eyeball the base when the sprue is cut, drop, eyeball the grooves, push into keeper pile. When one is a cull, it goes directly back, along with the sprue.

Once the mold has come upto casting temp, my reject rate for plinkers is less than 1%. It's usually a badly formed base/hole or something like that. Everything else gets shot. When casting LHP for hunting or hunting practice or rifle bullets, then they get weighed too. Propably a 5% rejection rate then.

Zero!

There is a fouling or break in pile though. Once it get's low, I scrutinize a little harder so they don't get lonely. And .... I back off when it get's up.

If the steering wheel looks good, who am I to judge. I could have been a reject too.

95% good with these is very good IMHO.............Creeker

Depends on mold I'm using. I've never kept an accurate count so these are guesses. I know it is my fault but I get more culls from a Lee .358 6 banger than I get from any other mold. I've got a Lee 452-255-RNFP that cast almost at 100% when I get the temp right. Most single and double cavity molds seem to cast probably over 95%
