Here they are, my first ever loaded 7.62x39mm with my own cast 160gr gas checked boolits, lightly lubed with Lee Liquid Alox. Sized .311, loaded to 2.20 COAL, 16 grains on the left, 17 grains on the right, full careful case prep and trickled powder.

Now I have some other things to do for the rest of the day, planning on trying them tomorrow...after I take care of the other end of odd. See, I really like my CZ 527,

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b13/armoredman/527/003.jpg

very accurate little carbine, but it threw it's rear sight the first day I shot it. I don't know how to restake a rear sight, so I put it aside and got a scope.

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b13/armoredman/527/527withscope.jpg

That worked great, gave good groups,

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b13/armoredman/527/Horsoftpointat100.jpg

until the next time I took it out, and got this...

Could not get it to hold a zero for my life. So, scope went back. Now, I have no scope, and no rear sight, what is a guy who is bound and determined to shoot, to do?

Enter the CZ-USA Picatinny rail adapter for the CZ 527, and the only optic I have left, (other than my EOTech, that stays on the vz-58. :) ) a loaner C-More reflex sight.

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b13/armoredman/527/527withCMore.jpg

I know, that just looks...odd...but I have no cash for another scope, a good one, sooo, here we are. I'll sight that in at 50 yards with j-word bullets, then see what the cast ones will do. I think 50 will give me a good starting point. After all, it's not the sights shooting the boolit.

Someday I will have a scope again....

Just kind of perplexed as to the failure of your sighting systems. Is this rifle new and under warranty? Used? Why not take it to a gunsmith for repair? When the scope lost zero, did you check the mounting for looseness? Was the scope new and under warranty or used? No offense, but are you new to the shooting sports as these are pretty common problems easily rectified.

No, not new, I've been shooting for, oh, lessee about 30 years, give or take a year. :) The mount was solid, the scope was new, but I was not happy with the clarity of a $40 scope, bad juju to begin with. Loosing zero just put the icing on the cake. I want to try a 2-7 Redfield I found at OpticsPlanet, but am saving the scratch for it. The rifle is new and under warrantee, I haven't taken it to have the rear sight restaked for two reasons; there is exactly one gunsmith in this 1.5 horse town, and he's not easy to get a hold of, and two, I am hoping for an adjustable rear sight to replace it with. :D It looks like there will be a peep adjustable coming soon, as there aren't any else to be found, yet. So, I wait for which ever comes first. :) In the meantime, one of the ideas I had about this little rifle is as a camp/escapers rifle, and the reflex may actually work well for that.
It also gives me a platform to try cast rifle boolits, so as not to lead up the gas system on my vz-58. :D

Oh. I now understand and agree with your course of action on this matter.
I really like that little 527.

Just my 2 cents but shouldn't there be screws in that rear sight under the leaf ?

armoredman
05-12-2010, 06:38 PM
I am slightly conufsed, what leaf? The rear sight on the 527 is a simply drifted dovetail, no screws. The rear on the vz-58 is military adjustable, but there's no screw under it. the EOTech has it's screws, but the holes below and forward in the forearm is where I didn't put on the side rails. :) Didn't need 'em.

OK so the raised portion of the sight is part of the barrel ? and the site part slides into it.
Sorry to confuse the issue.

I have a 2-7 Redfield on my CZ527. I'm very pleased with it. Seems to me to be the perfect fit for the gun AND the cartridge.

And here's the boolit that killed the ground hog.

Nice! That is exactly what I want...someday. I don't have a HP mould, though.

The mold is a 6 cav Lee C312-155-2R. I drilled the HP.

The exit was about 3/4 in. dia. I found the boolit about eight inches deep in the dirt behind the hog. It shed the nose down to the bottom of the HP cavity and riveted to .49 dia. Exactly the kind of performance I'd expect from a Nosler Partition.

Kinda neat, I think.

I've got one too, glad to see someone casting for it. Probably not worth it to reload in my case as I just like to plink with it, but if x39 gets too 'spensive it might prompt me to buy a mold and dies.

I've been reloading the caliber for some time, and when 7.62x39mm was nowhere to be found I was still shooting. :) This makes it even more affordable.

Can you buy a six cavity mold in that boolit or was it a group buy?. Pat

Good morning
I like that shooting tool. When I started loading 762.39 I found 1680 highly recommended and have not tried anything else. But then I do not have a bolt rifle... just the lowly sks types my sons grew up with. My mold is a 20 year ago 155gr GC and have never had a need to go anywhere else. But it sure is one fine up close cartridge.
Me I would be getting a receiver sight. But where I hunt- river bottons and ditches- I seldom see anything beyond 35-50 yards so my eyes still can do what I need. I have had glass on all sorts of rifles and now I have glass on just one item.. my 308 down here where I have miles of open desert.

Well, frag. Battery died in the C-More. No shooting today. Dang.
KYCaster, did you have any issues with that scope clearing the bolt handle? Using standard rings?

I like that set-up, CZ 527 in 7.62 x 39. Does the rear sight fit in a dovetail? One way to tighten it up is to use a center punch (either on the bbl or the underside if the sight) to raise a small ring in a couple places. Try it on some scrap first to see how it works. This will make the sight's dovetail fit tighter in the slot.

Wouldn't have happened if you were using a Trijicon Reflex.[smilie=p:

No, but the C-More is a loaner anyway. I have an EOTech 512, but it stays on the vz-58. Was going to get the Aimpoint T-1 Micro, chickened out on the price. I think the Trijicon is even higher priced than that, probably more than the rifle! BTW, MSRP is $727. http://cz-usa.com/products/view/cz-527-carbine/ Comes in .223, too.
I looked at some scopes that mount to a picatinny rail, found nothing that I could afford, yet. Sent in an e-mail to the ONE company that may be making a rear adjustable for the 527, no answer yet.
Yes, it's a 16mm dovetail, no punchs, but I can easily understand how that would work, might see if I can borrow one from someone.:-?

Natchez has the Trijicon Reflex for $420.75 with Weaver mount or $488.75 with M-16 handle mount.

Armoredman, the rings are mid height, I think. Doesn't clear the bolt handle by much, especially with the lens caps in place.

Pat, I don't recall where the mold came from. (CRAFT disease!) It must have been a group buy cause Lee shows it available as a two cav mold. It casts undersize so I Beagle it to get .313.

KY, gonna get a scope in themail shortly, will try it, and if that doesn't work, I'll use my Picatinny rail adapter and get a set of Picatinney rings, will raise height by a quarter inch or so.

REALLY need to get out and shoot these boolits, so I can see if I did it right!

Worked pretty well. Only at 50 yards, cast/load more, try again at 100 yards when I can.
