I got a PM from kirb this morning wonderning if I'd done any more testing with NOE's 314-129 FP. So, I thought I could start with casting some with a different alloy.

I chose lead/tin, 90/10 to see if the boolit mouth would fill out any better then the No#2 alloy I had been using. Below are the as cast results after the mould reached the proper tempature.

Now, after looking at these enormous hollow points, I wonder what would happen if I filled these cavities with silicon rubber, you know, the stuff you use to chauck window and doors. I think I'll give it a try as soon as I can get enough empty milk jugs together.

Have you tested them for hardness? They should hold together extemely well, The tin should make them tough. But depending on velocity and BHN, they might be slow to open up. I'm more thinking pistol velocities here, from a rifle you should be able to shoot them fast enough to get them to expand. If you do any exansion testing I'd be interested in your results. Wax is good for plugging hollowpoints - It keeps them from becoming clogged with hide or gristle and helps them to open up.

..............Dang! Those are simply huge holes with a tiny bit of boolit wrapped around'em!

The problem with silicone as a cavity filler is getting all the air out. Molten bees wax should be fine.

I have not tested themfor hardness yet, I was going to cast some more this morning and I think I pour a few in another mould and check the hardness.

I guess I never thought about using wax to fill the hollow point, I think I'll try that first.

I think I'll do my testing in the 32 magnum and the 30-30 for low velocity and high velocity tests.

I'd like to hear about tests with this boolit in the 7.62x39.
