Has anyone tried the RCBS .30-150-FN? Also, I didnt mention in my original post but I will be shooting these through a lever action with a tubular magazine so I guess I better stay with flat nose bullets to be safe.

Winchester or Marlin? If Marlin, is it micro-groove? I am using the discontinued Lee 311-170 FP in my Marlin. The nose engraves on the boolit and sometimes needs a firm squeeze to close the bolt, but shoots good.

I use the .309291, they drop at .311, 170gr, George.

I like a big 'uns to do in the deer I shoot. 311284 (flat pointed with a file) and a heavy, top secret flat nose that runs about 225 gr lubed and checked, also have high hopes for a Darr 190 grainer made like a longer 311041. They whack the deer with a thud, they usually drop like they are pole axed.

I aint killed anything with it, but have had fun shooting my RCBS 30-150-SP thru my Marlin 30AS micro groove. WW sized to .310 and weighing 160gr. 28.5gr IMR 4895 pushes it to 1850fps and a 3" group at a hundred yds. It might not be a super group for a scope, but it's good enough for my open sights and I'm happy. Aint had it too long so I havent done much load playing.

Rcbs 30-180 FN has been the most accurate in 3 of mine, including 1 Winchester '94 and 2 Marlins, a 1963 Sporting Carbine and a 1978 A. I'm in the process of testing my Dad's 1978 Marlin RC to see if it's a slam-dunk. Also, the powder charge is the same for all, 35 grains of H-414 giving a muzzle velocity from the mid 1900's to the high 1900's in the 24" barrel A model.

... and a heavy, top secret flat nose that runs about 225 gr lubed and checked, ...Is that the one that pole axes deer? What velocity are they driven to? I won't tell a soul!

Another vote for Lee 309 with GC's. Great for the white tails in the brush country where I hunt.

What, no one using the 311440?
If meplat is important, it seems about ideal.

I am planning on trying the Lee 150-F for deer this fall, I see no reason this boolit won't drop them if I do my part. Course in my part of Alabama we don't have that many monster deer that present themselves, I never had a problem dropping them with the 150 grn Remmy store bought ammo, so see no reason to fear anything with my cast boolits.

31141, now called 311041, 176 gr. FPGC loaded to the same velocity as the 170 factory load, made for the 30/30.

308180 NEI Rn 180 grain, or an old custom Saeco 190 grain flat nose. Cast at Bhn 13 and muzzle velocity of 1800-1900 fps in both .30/30's and .303 Savages. Very accurate and as impressive deer killers as any factory ammo.

IMHO aniy flat nosed (preferably HP'd) between 150 and 180 driven at about 1800 or so will do just fine. I like the 150 Lee, the 311041 HP, and the 165 RD, all work great.

My very limited testing of the 440 showed it's tempermental in feeding in my 94. Fed dine in my 99, but wasn't real accurate in the load I tried. I 94 was more accurate, but it'll take a bit of work.

Need more time.
