View Full Version : Lyman 4500 alignment issue- problem?

I just bought a new Lyman 4500 and I think there is a slight alignment issue with the ram. The top punch won't slide easily into the sizing die--it seems to be rubbing slightly against one side. It does go in, but it takes a little effort. This happens regardless of which sizer/punch combo I have tried.

For most of the bullets I size they don't need to go in so deeply that the punch goes deeply into the die, but is this indicative of a problem. My old Lyman 45 doesn't have this problem.

Is this normal? Is it OK? Should I send it back? How do I know when it's just annoying versus too bad?

TIA for any advice.

If the misalighnment is bad enough, send it back to Lyman for a replacement.

You can try leaving the set screw that holds the TP in loose, put a little boolit lube on the stem
to hold it in place, see if that helps alighnment.

Personaly, I would send it back to Lyman.

Just an update FYI: I called Lyman and they told me to send it in, so I did. They replaced the body and sent it back within a week and it's now perfectly aligned.

It cost $11 in shipping, thereby eliminating all the supposed savings I got from buying it on sale, but at least now I have a functional sizer.
