I hope its ok to be a proud Dad!!!
Just wanted to say that my daughter Audrey [8] competed in the Mississippi Southestern District [21 counties] 4H shooting match this weekend. She is shooting Sporter Class Air Rifle age 8-9. She was fortunate enough to take First place. We have been practicing A LOT!! The 4H program is really great!!
She had a Daisy 953 Target Pro with Avanti Diopter sights. She is really gettting good at this!!!
Because the age limit for state competition is 14-18, she had advanced as far as she can in the State.
I want to say thanks to a few here who have had some good advice for me. Blacksmith is up on all the shooting sports. I actaully got to meet a fellow member there too. [ironmule]. And thanks to a "ill tempered ohioan":-P, we had some good Binoculars for Dad to spot with!!!
This site is like family to us!!! We shared her first deer story here among other things.
Thanks to all the good folks here!!!

Congratulations to both of you. If she's advanced as far as she can in the State, what's next on the agenda? It sounds like she could be one heck of a competitor...

Nah, she was not fortunate at. She is good and has a good teacher so both of you need to be proud.
Sounds like a .22 next and other competition. Go for it! :Fire:

She can shoot .22 when she is 10. She really likes air rifle!! She can shoot off of sandbags until she is 10. Then it will be either air rifle off a table resting on elbows or 3 position 22. By the way, her score was 225 out of 300. She only had 1 pellet out of the black.

Congrats to both Daughter and Dad! I wish more parents would take the time to be with their kids. If you want to get her into 22's sooner than what you posted, get her a 22 Benchrest rifle. I'm fairly certain she can compete in IR50-50 and ARA competition and when she's old enough to compete in NRA 22 matches she'll be light years ahead of her competition.

BTW: It ain't braggin when you can back it up!

Congratulations to Audrey, Now Dad don't take to much of her Glory but we all know that behind every great kid is a careing parent.
At her age after a big match may be a good time to give her a break. Let her shoot some fun targets, try some of these you can print from your computer

Because shooting at black circles can be boring which I have on good authority of a 9 year old.
You can also start working with her on positions, be sure you know whats right, then keep the sessions very short so she doesn't get tired and don't over coach her.
This is where our future shooters come from.

And, by the way, air rifle is an Olympic sport.........

Keep it up and maybe we'll all get to watch her, on TV, in 2016.....or 2020...or....

You could get her some Metallic Silhouette targets to shoot at for a change of pace. Irregular shapes and they move, lots more entertaining than paper... They make them for air rifle as well as for .22's.

Good idea!! Been shooting some bean cans with the .22. We will try it with the Air rifle too!!!!!
Thanks guys for boosting her confidence. As Iron mule said, she is kinda shy, til she gets cranked up!!:bigsmyl2:

If you shoot outdoors try some Ritz crackers or Necco Wafer candy, they break like clay birds and the birds or night critters will clean up the mess.

That is a great idea. My wife gets real bored shooting paper, and I do't want to us clays because of the mess.
