I chucked some 358318 bullets in my drill and a cut off wheel in the dremel tool. I hoped to keep the flat nose square this way! It seemed to work even if they were not all the same length/weight when done. Any way the flat was about .230 to .250. I loaded them with the same powder and charge as the RN's. I shot them at a full gallon jug and a bale of phone books. The RN's just punched thru the jug and penetrated about 8" of books. The FN's, WOW what a difference! They exploded the jug but only penetrated about 6-7" in the books. Their was a definite difference in the holes with the FN's being larger with more confetti in them. I couldn't find any of the bullets only fragments and gas checks.

Yup, meplat is important in a hunting bullet. You just demonstrated this principle.
