I've fooled with that and I've also pulled 40 hollow point jacketed bullet from 22 rimfire magnum and shot them hot out of my Colt HBAR.

One tip, and this applies to those who have the conversion kits for the AR15's to fire rimfire ammo, mic different brands of 22 ammo and select the one with the largest diameter. No longer available, but I found PMC brand to be fatter and it did shoot better in a .224 groove barrel.

I tried one this morning and at 10 ft the bullet bounced off of a 2x4 and hit me in the leg[smilie=l: It didn't hurt. didn't even deform the nose of the bullet. I used a 223 case and old pulled bullet 40 gr (graphite coated??) no powder and a SRM primer. I might drill the flashhole out and try again. The 22 shells are old and weren't stored properly so 1 in 3 won't fire in my 22 rifle.

So, I drilled the flash hole out to .100 Little bit of increase based on point of impact change and depth of dent. I then added .3 gr of whatever powder they used in the 22lr shell. Noted increase in velocity and change of POI and actual penitration into wood. Entire bullet was inside of wood, just barely.:-)

I really hate writing a reply only to have it disappear. Let's try again.
I have used 40 and 45 gr 22 jacketed bullets and sized down 35 gr XTX 25auto bullets in a marlin 22lr bolt gun. The bullets are pulled from CCI Stinger rounds (cases are stronger). Powder dumped. You are now into load development. I used powders from 1680 to AA-7. The powder is contained in the case by a paper disc cut with a paper punch.
The bullets are sized down so the front section is bore riding. The position of the diameter change is placed so that it is against the rifling when the case is loaded behind it.
These loads shot 1/2 inch groups at fifty yds. The pressure ring method was used to good effect in determining pressure levels. Only one blown case out of several hundred.
Five grains of H-108 behind a 40 gr bullet for 1800fps. 5.5 grains of H-110 behind 50 gr bullett for 1700fps.
It was a interesting project.

I don't remember all the particulars but I have fired 22 lead pellets in the 22 hornet powered by primer only. I turned the hollow base of the pellet out and seated the pellet flush with the mouth of the case. I used them in the basement firing into a 22 bullet trap.

There was a company that sold .223 Rem brass modified to accept shotgun primers that were used to propel 22 cal pellets in rifles chambered for 223 Remington.
I think I have some my machinist teacher made for me before I took his class.

I made one of those to shoot in my 15" Encore when it was still a .223 Remington. It was accurate, and the penetration was good too. I discontinued the practice because the shotgun primers left a horrible gooey residue in the barrel after very few shots.:|

I tried 0.5gr of the powder they load in the 22lr and @ 10yrds I shot through 2- 200 page phone books (dry) and into a 2x4 to where I couldn't see them.

I went back to the 0.3 gr of powder and got penetration all the way through 1 phone book (stuck in back cover). Just what I was looking for. Now to take care of those pesky wabbits. :Fire:

I have one of those 7lb chineese spring air rifle in .177 I thought I had hit 2 of them last night, but they just hopped off. It may not have enough power for them bunnies, and they may have died somewhere else.

I also have a .22lr rifle and shorts to feed it but was worried about overpenetration

A member of my club scored a large wooden box of .22RF projectiles when the CAC factory closed in NZ. He still has a heap of them and used to GC each bullet and shoot them in a Hornet at 1600fps.

STARMETAL: We can buy the 40gr .22WMR projectiles here ex the factory in AU. I load them in my .223 to 2000fps over 6.5gr Green Dot. Used to be murder in the Hornet at 2800fps!

If you want a kitten sneeze load, try a .22 cal airgun pellet over a primer with no powder.
