I was given quite a few lead rifle bullets that have a diameter of 0.446 inches. What on earth would you shoot these things in?

Wow. That is really an odd one. My guess is some metric cartridge.

What kind of boolit, shape and wt? May give a hint of whether it was a rifle round or
pistol round.

In the world of milsurp rifles that would be the 1871/84 Mauser caliber 11.15x60mm Mauser.

It is also used in the .44-77 Sharps and I'm sure some other .44 rifles.

Hmmm.. I have brass & dies for 11.15x60 but no..... boolits:(

Do they have grease grooves? If not, they might be Paper Patch?

43 Egyptian! Interesting! I have a friend who has one of those. But I thought that the 43 Egyptian used slightly larger bullet. Would the 0.446 bullet have to be paper patched and if so how hard is that to do? These bullets, incidentally, do have grease grooves.

.446 grease groove- yep for one of the metrics or one of the old 44 BPCR types. Really fairly common size range for some of the older bores.
