Good morning all,
I'm new to the site, and new to casting although I have been around it for some time now. I decided to try my hand at casting, and I must admit I am addicted already ! I cast my first 600 boolits using a Lee #20 pot, and Lee 6 cavity mold. I think they came out pretty good for a first timer. I wanted to share some pictures of the bench I built downstairs in my basement. I used a oven hood with a 7" vent that I stick out one of the windows when I am casting which seems to work well. I have been reloading for about 5 years, and built myself a new bench downstairs as well. I still need to move all my components from upstairs to my new bench, but you get the general idea,

Great setup!
One thing tho' Put the fire extinguisher somewhere further beyond a possible source of fire, its kind of hard to get to when the bench is a burnin. Don't ask me how I know[smilie=1:

You can't make good boolits there. It's way too neat.

That's a cozy little corner, mini fridge by the bench. I have to ask because someone else will, are you a lantern collector by chance?...Ray

Yes I collect, and repair them. There is 5 Coleman lanterns there, two 200a's one from 1959 with the original box, one from 1962, and a few others. They all work great, and come in handy when needed.

Cool.

I made a similar lampworking bench for my wife, but it has a monstrous fan to ensure no fumes are being breathed in.

By the way, the fan that comes with the vent IS NOT SUFFICIENT TO KEEP YOU SAFE. (FYI).

You fella's are WAY too neat for me. If my shop looked like yours I couldn't do anything in it. Mighty nice!

a clean shop is a sign of a sick mind, I am SO jealous, I've already got a mess and haven't cast a single boolit yet!

I just have to ask when the new wears off will it still be that clean and organized?

Do you have a maid service come in? If they work cheap I might hire them.
Ask them if they clean up pig pens.

My setup.

This is a cannibalized computer case cover (and side) bolted together with a 130cfm ac fan blowing
into a four inch duct going outside. I have zero worries about any fumes at all. In fact, I am
looking to get some kind of a fan speed reduction circuit for the fan as most of the time it isn't
necessary. The only times it is really required to run at top speed is when I am fluxing or adding
older lubed boolits (that I removed most of the lube from) into the mix. Otherwise half the speed
would be perfectly fine. I can smoke a big cigar with that fan going and it takes care of the smoke
and smell.

I used a simple stove hood and fan. I had no trouble with fumes from flux, bullet lube or wood smoke. Worked great..............Creeker
