View Full Version : What do you guys think of the 7-08 as a HV boolit launcher?

More than anything, I'd like to hear about speed and accuracy. I'm trying to pick a replacement barrel for my .358 M77 and trying to decide between the 7-08 and .308 Win. I'm not interested in developing loads for boolits having a SD > .270.

I have a 7/08 and love it. I have never shot anything but red pills, and probably will not change. It is not a hard kicker, is very moderate with powder, and gives great performance. I usually use 150 grainers. Been trying to work up a load for varmits.

it'll do it but you'll still need the bbl.

I know, I know and I don't have any experience with custom barrels for HV boolit shootin'! Actually, the only barrels that have given me satisfactory performance with cast are old 336 barrels. So naturally, I gravitate toward barrels with deep, cut rifling. My 336 in 30-30 made in 1949 with only 4 grooves will out group anything that has fallen into my hands within the last 10 years and maintains that level of accuracy beyond 2300 fps with 170-180 grain boolits.
