I weighed these items on a RCBS 304 scale:
1- CCI-500 sm. pistol primer= 3.3 gr.
10 primers= 33.1 gr.
1 dime= 35.2 gr.
1 penny=38.4 gr.
1 nickel=75.6 gr.
1 quarter=87.9 gr.

All coins were clean and shinny, like new, not worn at all.

New US coins have been so debased that they are not always the same weight from year to year. For some time coin-operated vending machine operators were frustrated that new coins were being rejected as slugs. Now the tolerance set is great enough that slugs work just fine.

Where is Darkest California?........

PatMarlin,
Of course California is on the left coast and the darkness seems to emanate from the dome about 70 miles south of me. I reside near a little village on the outskirts of Timbucktoo called Oroville.

A set of check weights costs less than $20 now, and my set has been in use for 30 years. Thats like 7 cents a year for real peace of mind.

Never bought a set of check weights. I use either match bullets or my own swaged bullets for checking proper zero. Once in a while I have ny buddy stop by and bring his scale so we can double check both scales against each other. Works.
