Does any one here know the over all lenth when you crimp the lyman 250 gr. devistater bullet in the 44 mag. I just bought a ruger 77/44 and I dont want to buy the mold if it wount fit in the clip on the gun. I've been shooting the lee 310 gr. crimping it on the upper crimp groove and it fits in the clip and feeds great. I just got the gun and ran 150 rounds through it with the 310 gr. It was fun but my shoulder is a little sore. Any help here would be great.

Hi lead chucker, I got the Devastator mould for my 96/44 which has the same or a very similar rotary mag to the 77/44. The Devastator WON'T fit in the mag if it's seated to the crimp groove. I just seated mine in a little deeper with a really, really light crimp on the case mouth so rounds chamber smoothly without hanging up. With the box mag there's no pressure from other bullets and a magazine spring as there is with a tube mag so bullet push won't be an issue nor will bullet pull, like in a revolver - so a firm crimp into a crimping groove isn't really necessary.

I also have that Lee 310gr mould coming to try out. :)

Fenring Thanks for that info. I wasnt sure about seating the bullet deeper. I tried that with the lyman 429.421 bullet and it was kind of a compressed load with 22 grs of 2400 1853 feet per second in my crono. Shots were all over the place. I will have to slow it down. I use 15.5 gr 2400 with the 310 lee bullet my barrell is 18.5 inch and im getting in the low 1400 feet per second range wich is just fine for me 1.5 inch groups at 70 yards .
