Can you use a 50AE die to reload the 500S&W?????
I've used 38spl to reload 357, 44spl to reload 44mag, even 45acp to reload 454 Casull.

I would say no. The 500 S&W is a rimmed case, 50 AE isn't. The case dimensions are different as well

I was thinking that both use .50 cal bullets, so the cases neck would be the same.
Checked on the web and found....
50AE
Bullet diameter .500 in (12.7 mm)
Neck diameter .540 in (13.7 mm)
500S&W
Bullet diameter .50 in (13 mm)
Neck diameter .526 in (13.4 mm)
So I guess it won't work.
Maybe.
If someone has both, can they try and then post results.

50ae is a tapered case, and the 500 is fairly straight. If you had a 500 size die, you could use the ae dies to expand/seat. I was hoping to take the cheap route also, but no go.

You might be able to force/join/combine the elements of a cartridge into a group, but I wouldn't say it would be a good idea. Probably as good an idea as loading 454 casull with 45acp dies.

When I first started reloading 500 S&W on my Dillon, I only had a 3 die set. I always seat and crimp in seperate steps. I used my 50 AE crimp die, and it put a really good roll crimp on the 500 S&W, despite the 50 AE being a taper crimp cartridge.

That is probably the only 50AE die that will work on the 500 S&W, though I guess maybe the seating die would work as well. Never tried that one. But it is definitely a no-go on the sizer.
