Looking for a bullet for my new Savage Sporter (mod 23) in .25-20. I think I will probably just buy some already cast as a 500 count box will probably last me a while in this rifle. Any suggestions bullets or loads would be appreciated. Thanks Moose

Looking for a bullet for my new Savage Sporter (mod 23) in .25-20. I suggest Lyman's 257420 which is a very accurate cast bullet in my M23)I think I will probably just buy some already cast as a 500 count box will probably last me a while in this rifle. That's probably what we all thought.....suggest you get the mould as 500 rounds will be gone in no time with such a pleasant rifle to shoot.) Any suggestions bullets or loads would be appreciated. 11 gr of 5744 or 10 gr of H4227 under the Lyman bullet cast of WWs + 2% tin shoots very well. Both run around 1850 fps.)Thanks Moose

Search over in leverguns. There are a great many loads there. Also check the favorite loads forum. A fair numberof us shoot 25-20 and many discussions are there. Its a fussy ? cartridge to the extent that case mechanics and the kind of rifle are very important for good results.

I have used the Lyman 257420 for many years. However, it is a gas check bullet. I have not tried it without the check but others have stated it can work well just leaving the check off for the milder loads.

I have used 4.0 grs of Unique for accurate squirrel loads that also work well on paper.

If you are going to use "full" loads, I have found that a full charge of RL-7 works well.

Hodgdon Powder has some data on their web site for other powders and loads.

Lyman's Cast Bullet handbook has a number of good loads with a variety of good powders.

i have a rapine mold unchecked version at 72 grs.
it likes aa-2230 in the 11 gr range i shoot them unsized at 259 seemed the faster i went the better it shot.
jpw and b-wax warmed and swirl lubed works nicely too.
