Am planning to pick up lee 90371 mould for .303 brit and would like some powder reccomendations. I am pretty much stuck with Hodgon and IMR as that is what my supplier sells. This mould is for a 185 gr. bullet.

Thanks,
Darren

Darren, before buying any mold, make sure how much boolit diameter you need. Try and find someone having an inside diameter mic and measure several of your fired cases. Your mold should produce boolits as large as that measured as a minimum. Even larger boolits can be sized down. You might need a custom mold to be happy with that gun. ... felix

I am going to try something different. I have had some luck with Trail Boss in 30-30 and this might be just the ticket for 303. It bulks well in the case and should give good accuracy with modest velocity, say 1200-1400 fps. I will post more as I get some results in.

I've thought that IMR 3031 might do well (I've got some) I also have some IMR 4064. I'm thinking that the 3031 will be better as the 4064 seems to be intended to drive a jacketed case. Keep up with suggestions. I've been to .303 brit.com and the cast list is different from the article about cast bullits so it makes me ponder some.

I am shooting a 175gr WW bullet over 17gr of H4227 for 1600fps and 2MOA at 100m for 10 shoots.
Pay attention to neck tension. I keep my necks SOFT cos' if I don't the LE starts patterning and not grouping.

cheers

I've shot H4350, IMR 7383, and Red Dot in .303 Brit. Of the three the H4350 was best, with 7383 being a good, cheap plinking round. Never could get Red Dot to work well in my Enfield action.

I use a 185 cast out of my enfield & have found that 22.8 gns of H4895 works well:bigsmyl2:

I've been using 12.0 of unique. It's a poop load, but saves on powder, and is good for 2" or less at 100yds.
Need to slug the bore to find the right size bullet. If not, it won't make any differencs what powder you use.

Doc25,
You might want to consider getting powder from Higginsons

http://www.higginsonpowders.com/pages/934271/index.htm

They have a good selection and good prices, especially with surplus powders, and are probably less than an hours drive from Montreal. The new reloading regulations might be comming out any day now so lots of us are stocking up big time.

I buy from Higginsons hence the IMR/Hodgon limitation.
