Can I "dry size" my bullets in my Lyman 4500 with no problems? I would rather leave the lube reservoir empty for now and pan lube until I know what lube I'll be using. Thanks!

Ax, I ,personally, would not dry size. You stand a chance of sticking or gauling a dry bullet. I use a 50/50 mix of mineral spirits and Lee liquid Alox to size before pan lube. A very small amount will coat lot's of boolits...............larry

I don't see any problems if you pan lube first and then size. I wouldn't do it the other way.

Only a trace of lube is needed, and some folks don't even use that. I use whatever is within reach to get my hands greasy and the handling process gets enough on the bullets. Even the natural oil in my hair worked, back in the days when I had hair.

Dry sizing is certainly doable. I've never noticed sticking or galling, but sometimes a trace of some sort of lube makes the difference between a bent or upset nose and a straight one, especially if the sizing is extensive and the bullet is soft.

I put a batch of bullets in a butter tub and spray a little case sizing lube on the bullets or Pam cooking spray ( regular not butter flavor ).

Both easy sizing .
