Fellas:
MIL has one of the top-break H&Rs chambered in 38 S&W and has asked me for some ammo. I now have some brass, but have no idea of the cylinder throats on the revolvers (it is in AL, I'm in VA). Anyone have any idea what they generally measure? Tony

I try to size mine at .361 - .362 depending on what the mould drops. Sometimes I'm lucky to get .360 out of a mould. I have several break tops and solid frames.

I think the throats on my H&R are in the .363" range. I'm not home, or I'd measure them for you. I don't recall them being on the "snug" side.

.............My Iver Johnson top break, and 2 Victory models all go .362. I believe you'll find factory 38 S&W boolits to run .360"

Try for .361+. You'll be lucky if you can get it without having a mould made. The best bet for a commercial mould that size is the Lyman 360271. Mine throws them just over .361 in WW.

Thanks for the replies. I'll try the 360344 WC, it will probably cast the largest bullet of anything I have.

Tony,

SAAMI Specs call for a 0.362 Throat.

The Drawing may help visualize what is needed. The Lee mold could easily be honed out a thousandths or so, or it appears as though it might just work fine as is.

Hope this helps.
