Hello, Got a conundrum,

I got the .451 230gr 2Ogive mold from Midway - casted a bunch, looked good, loaded them up - but I think I might have the crimp in the wrong location - please see the below pic - is A or B the correct crimp location to get good OAL?

You should be close using a OAL of 1.270. Try that lenght and use your pistol barrel as a gauge to see if the loaded bullet will drop in flush with the hood. You can go from there up or down to get the best function cartidge for your paticular barrel.

A would be correct. But if the as cast diameter is to big, the round will not chamber. Them you will have to seat the bullet deeper as in B. Normal bullet diameter after sizing for the 45 acp is .452" http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n420/joe1944usa/45seatingpossibilitiesxn.jpg http://i338.photobucket.com/albums/n420/joe1944usa/45acp947inch_001.jpg

That is quite long for most bullets in the 45acp, at SAAMI max. You'll have better luck a bit shorter. All my loads are no longer than 1.260" for reliable feeding in 1911s & an XD. The bullt fit to the chamber is the deciding factor. IMO, 1/270" is too long.

45ACP doesn't require a crimp like revolver rounds do. Just load to OAL that will chamber in your gun and load in the magazine properly.

True, but for 100% relaible ammo, you should taper crimp your ammo, especially if using a slight case mouth flare to better seat lead bullets, a must do IMO.
