You need to donate to the site thru a monetary gift or buy something from the benefit auctions for the site. Both help out the site...which is good for everyone!

Go to the "donate" icon above, it's on the same line as "user cp" etc, click it for membership/donation options and instructions.

There are several levels of membership base upon cost, each with increasing side benefits. "Patron" is midrange, with "contributor" being the entry level and "sponsor" being the highest.

Those boolits underneath some folks names only means that we're very shy, quiet and extremely reserved about how often we care to speak up or only very occasionally offer our opinion or response to something.

Most of us offer a response or opinion only after much kicking and dragging and screaming, followed by wailing and gnashing of the teeth.

Several months later, we recover and begin saving up to offer another opinion.

:)

As far as contributing, as others have said, there are a number of ways to help support the site, and all are good.

I personally choose to offer stuff up on the Site Benefits Auction forum, where I not only purchase or donate the item up for auction, but also pay the shipping. The money or funds from the auction are sent directly to either Willy or Ken. They post a message when funds are received and I then ship the merchandise.

Buyer gets merchandise, seller gets "contributor" status, and Cast Boolits get a nice cash-infusion.

Because of the information and resources here, I've pretty much let all my gun-rag subscriptions lapse--and I take that money and steer it towards supporting the site.

How did all you fancy fellers get them boolits under yur names. In all seriousness Greenhorn, a gray boolit is worth 1000 posts, a gold boolit is worth 5000 posts.

There is only one member on the forum that has 2 gold boolits. There are 12 members with 1 gold boolit and gray boolits and there are lot of people here with one or more gray boolits.

A willingness to jump into any discussion helps to get you there. Sometimes its to contribute or ask a question and sometimes its to pull the leg of a Greenhorn.

Lose all contact with the outside world when you retire and spend lots of time trying to convince folks harder isn't actually better, just harder and that'll get you off to a good start.

I'm not positive, but I believe the benefit auction donation amount must equal the amount of a standard donation.

Greenhorn44, there are all sorts of ways to find out info about a poster. The gold and silver boolits are just one indication. Did you know that you average 6.36 posts a day? At that rate it won't take you long to earn your own silver boolit.

Try clicking through all of the menus. It is surprising what sort of info is available. Not your address or anything like that, but your profile is where I found the info about your daily post average.

This isn't for public knowledge but when you get a gold boolit they send out a team of dancing girls and cases of bubbly and you get a brand new AMC Pacer as a prize! At least that's what they told me. I was apparently out in the fields making hay when they showed up and missed it all, or so I'm told.

Darn my luck......

It took a little help from a thesaurus to get the alliteration right.

It helps to have kids still in school. They both had an eight grade English teacher that they thoroughly hated at the time, but have gone back to thank for her for being as hard nosed as she was. She made high school AP English easy for them. I picked up some of what they learned by helping with their lessons. You can indeed teach an old dog new tricks, but grammar is not one of them.

............I got my gold Boolit due to the fact I worked a 12 hour shift at night that was unsupervised, and as an added benefit I wasn't responsible for anything. As a result I managed to stick my oar into a bunch of people's threads. Now if they could figure out how to award 'points' for worthwhile valuable posts, I wouldn't HAVE a gold boolit. Nor come to think of it, very many silver ones either[smilie=l:
