I am thinking of buying a mould in a lighter weight for my Redhawk 45 Colt. I was thinking that this is perhaps the right time to try my first Lee 6 banger and get one of these... "452-255-RF 452 Diameter 255 Grain Round Nose Flat Tip" from Midway. I see this as the most popular choice and perhaps the best?

All the throats are right at .452...

Also, does anyone have any luck just using a standard .452 230 gr. GI 45 type bulet in a 45 Colt?. I have the Lyman 452374, the RCBS 45-230-RN and the RCBS 45-201-SWC... Never tried them in the Redhawk.

Thank you!

In a Blackhawk the hands down winner was the 454424 in my pistol outshooting the Lee 255 rf by at least 3" smaller group at 50 yds. It's throats were uniformed to .4525". I have a 45 acp cylinder and have shot the RCBS 201 with good success so the twist works if it is the same barrel rate of twist for a redhawk. Gianni.

I have a redhawk in 45 colt to the lee 255 rf does not shoot very well in my gun 3-4" at 50 yards with a scope but the lee 300gr rf shot like a house a fire with 21.5gr of w-296 and a standered lp primer it will keep 5 shots at an inch or under and 9.5gr of unique does about the same I had my throats reemed to 452.5 here is a group that I shot

My hands down favorite bullet in my 45 Colts is the RCBS 270SAA, it drops from my mould at 284 grains, and is easily the most accurate bullet I have tried.

I also will voice my support for using the Lee 300gr GC bullet.

For faster loads, I heat treat them in the oven and then water quench.

For "as cast" hardness, they work great with 8.5gr of Unique or Universal.

Wow, nice group!

Wish I could scope the old Flattop without putting any holes in it... :(
