Hi,
I have an old can of 2400 and on the can it says 2400 "Rifle Powder" Is this the same 2400 we all know and love now? :-|

Just remember the can is likely to be as valuable as the powder.

Yes the can is perfect. Has a little round top on it that you push in on the center to open it. Very unique. ;)

I sure wish I would have saved all those little cubical cans! I think the only one I have left is a Bullseye can.

2400 got it's start as THE powder for the 22 Hornet. It was the first powder to send a boolit out at the phenominal speed of...2400fps.

Right on Stubshaft. I someday will have a Hornet!

I have a few of those cubical cans. Where can I sell them and make money?

I had 2 of them with 2400 in them, new unopened. Well now they are opened and empty. :)

I've got several BL-C2 cans like that, too.

I have original factory load brochures for 2400 and Unique. I was amazed to learn that they were BOTH thought of as powders for rifle. Unique was considered a "gallery load" powder for the 30-06 and other like-sized cases.

Nothing much changes, except that we now think reduced rifle loads using Unique are a new idea!

2400 was developed for the .22 hornet. I believe Towsend Whelen had a hand in it. He wanted a powder to drive a .22 hornet bullet 2400 fps, hence 2400. Can't remember where I read this.

A report in the 1930s RIFLEMAN states that Whelen pushed Hercules to have a new powder manufactured. And it was named 2400 because it would generate 2400 plus fps from the Hornet rifles with 45 grain bullets.

Believe it or not I still have the bag from the first 5 pounds of 4831 in bulk I ever bought. It is still like you got it yesterday. I'll send it postpaid to you in the lower 48 for $12.

*Gotta have some fun in a serious business, eh? BvT

I have a cardboard canister for 50# 4831 that still has about 20# of powder in good condition still in it. I also have 2 one # cans for Alcan 7, and 1 for Alcan 8 powder. These are square 1# cans with a friction fit lid about 1 1/4" dia. The cans are in great condition. The powder is still good. I also have an 8# canister for Alcan 7. Where is the market for these and what are they worth?

Wish I'd kept some HiVel#2 powder in those square cans. Wish I could still buy it. Great powder

No Gear, I'm talking about selling only the metal cans, hopefully for lots of money. The powder was shot in my pistols and worked very well, wish I had more. Unless your soil is iron poor the cans won't do your garden much good. Our good red dirt is rich in iron.

If you would like to trade me a pound of powder for my empty can, just let me know.
