I was looking on the LBT website and they talk about their 185 gr. FNB mold for .40 caliber auto pistols. Does anyone have some experience with this mold in an auto loader? Does anyone have a picture or drawing? I want to use it in an Edge style double stack so I would want to long load it to around 1.180" oal. Does anyone have experience with any LBT mold in .40? Thank you.

I have one of thier 200 gr. WFN with a Gas Check. I use it for heavy 10mm loads in my 610 and my Glock 20's. I have loaded some of the bullets long in .40 cases and fired them out of both my STI Edge and my STI 6" gun and they worked fine. I am not sure what the FNB looks like?

Thanks Neal. Good to know about it feeding in the STI's. You must get the gas checks here because I don't think I have ever seen any for .401 in the usual places. I have had very good results in other calibers with cast lead and gas checks.
Does anyone know about the FNB? Thanks.

LBT GC moulds for .40 cal bullets are made to use .41 cal GC's and they just get sized down a bit more inthe .401 die. I think Gator makes .40 GC's but Hornady doesn't.

Neal, how long can you load your 200gr WFN without leaving the lube groove exposed? I load to 1.260" in my P-16, but haven't found a cast bullet yet that will work in .40 brass without an exposed lube groove. I spec'd one on the Mountain Molds website, but haven't ordered it yet.

Neal thanks for the heads up about the .41 GC's, I have a bunch of those.

Yondering, be careful you don't load too long. You need to have freebore to permit it. You could push dangerous pressures.

That's not really correct, especially for cast bullets, but thanks anyway.

Loading for the bullet to contact the rifling is a common cast bullet loading technique, and is just another part of working up a load, if you use it. Any more than just contacting the rifling will prevent the action from closing all the way (in a semi auto), obviously. Regardless, I'm using a long-throated .40 S&W barrel that can easily handle anything that will fit in the magazine.

I just checked a bulllet in a fired case and can get 1.220" and still have the mouth of the case on the bullet enough to crimp. At 1.260" there is just a sliver of lube exposed but the mouth of the case would not have anything to crimp onto at that length.

I have had excellent results with the RCBS .401 mold in a CZ at 1.40" and a 1911 at 1.85". Here is a link to it.
