Thanks to this forum, I was able to diagnose why I was getting severe leading issues in my 1911. A combination of pure lead, too much speed, a sizer that was 1 thou too small, and a Lee full length sizing die combined to give leading that would take my group from 1 inch at 10 yards to 12 inches in a matter of a few magazines.

About 80 pounds of wheel weights, 55 pounds of boolits was the yield.

Split them 50/50 with my buddy who helped me make these and did the leg work on getting the lead. All are sized and lubed. 230 grain roundnose tumble lubed Lee mold, and 200 grain SWC tumble lube Lee mold.

Both shot great yesterday when I was trying various loadings, and not a single bit of leading was present at the end of 100 rounds (compared to an insane amount after 25 shots).

Giving the new press a work out on the off days.

I'm proud to say that :castmine:

Jeep45238,

Welcome.

Got my first anti-leading help here, too.

Now, don't be bashful. Make contributions, when you can, that will help the next new member. Who knows, your input may be exactly what will work for him or her.

I've learned so much from this site too. Doesn't hurt to throw a few bucks into the pail by clicking the "show your support" link above. Well worth it.

Not going to happen right now. I'm lucky that I was able to find a job that offered me one day a week, and the finances just aren't there for spending money unnecessary to daily life right now.

If things change for the better, so will the above statement :bigsmyl2:

I also have a few hundred of those 230gr TL boolits, but don't have dies yet. What loading recipe did you find works well?

Yours will vary, but I found 4.7 grains was very accurate. Somehow, the LSWC liked the same charge.
