I have a P-95 that never impressed me with accuracy. I slugged the barrel and it came up .3567 . Thats a 38/357 bore and it should be .355. I could live with that just fine since my favorite mold drops .360 boolits that I can size to whatever I want but, the problem is that commercial bullets are .355 if you are lucky and maybe 1/2 a thou smaller is not uncommon. Thats the part that I cannot abide.

I'm wondering if this is typical for a P-95? My GP-100 slugs out .3567 too. Which is wonderful. Any bullet/boolit I use is very accurate and never had a leading problem.

I'm considering trying to get a replacement barrel for the P-95 and my question is:
Am I going to find a tighter barrel or is that pretty much how it is?

Hello.
Your RUGER is right in specs ! I've seen 9x19 barrels from .355 to .359. Just shoot a larger boolit.

My Browning HP slugged at .357. I shoot a .358 bullet and it does just fine!

My Hi-Power is like EMC45's, loves .358 bullets, not so good at .355/.356.

One more vote!

All our 9mms (four) thrive on the .358 bullet diameter. One will work with .359, but in the interests of simplicity, I just load for all of 'em at .358. KISS , dontcha know.

I have .355 and .356 sizers that haven't been used in decades....

All 3 of our 9mm pistols dote on .357"-.358" castings. An aftermarket barrel will more likely run at "spec" .355", but OEM grooves and throats are almost always wider than spec. After about a half-dozen 9mm pistols here, none were .355" from the factory, and no others belonging to friends were on spec either. All were .002"-.004" oversize.

Evidently, what I need for SD ammo is some Golden Sabers for 38spl or in my case of extra hot 9mm loads maybe 357magnum bullets. It would be nice to have a 9mm that could make use of 9mm bullets.
Maybe I need a hollow point mold? That would solve everything.

Both of my 9s, an XD9 & Beretta 92FS, slug at just barely over .356 so I size at .357". So far so good as I have decent accuracy with no leading in either gun.

(mm with 357 bores are not rare and in fact the last 3 I owned a WQalther a Browning and a CZ all shot best with 357 bullets. I have 2 boxed of commercial 9mm's that I got 30 years ago and still havent used as they were sized 355 and they shot in nothing.

Well... that just bites! All in all a stupid autoloader pistol is made for self defense at short ranges anyway so accuracy is not what its all about. I guess I want too much to expect a pistol to shoot like a revolver all the time. So if I get a 4" group at 30' , thats plenty good enough to eliminate a bad guy that is close enough to be a threat. Besides that few people could shoot a 1 foot group at 15' while a BG was shooting back

Like I wrote earlier, I can cast boolits big enough to keep leading at bay and get cheap practice. I decided that I'm not going to spend money on a barrel for ruger pistol anyway.

Maybe someday I will happen across a pistol that I like with a tighter barrel to start with.

For jacketed slugs the difference is not a big deal although Waters in Pet LOads for the 9MM also bemoaned the 355 bullets. I would guess that the manufactures see the undersized bullet as a safety thing since 9's are loaded to reletivly high pressure. For cast you just don't size them down as much or but the same bullet style in a 38-357 mould. As to accuracy i once had a tuned 469 that would shoot under 1" at 25 yards with cast slugs and under 2" fith factory jacketed slugs. My Daugher has that gun no and it's on it's second barrel. The first tube was shot so much that 1" of rifling was gone at the breech.

Thanks KSCO, I'm not going to let waste any bullets that I have and will us my 356-125 RN's for practice. When I get to shoot regularly , I find myself looking at the target and ignoring the sights and still hitting where I want. I'm pretty sure I'm going to be rusty after this long cold , wet, dreary winter.

I will work on accuracy more now that I know that I just need some boolits that fit.
