Has anyone used the rex powder. I have found load data at ww.rexpowder.com which includes loads for common handgun (9mm,38s&w+p, 40, and 45), as well as shotgun load data. Powder Valley has it for 24.95 for 2.2 lbs (12.47lb) I have been using tg, bullseye, and sr4756. tg is 14.10 (out of stock), bullseye is 13.95 (out of stock) I use the lee auto disk pro on my turret press and have head that unique does not meter consistantly with it, according to the lee site. I know that there is not mush difference in price, but in large quantities it can add up. at 12.47 per pound =.00178 per grain of powder. a 4 gn charge would be .00712 per round. to reload a 1,000 rounds would take $7.12 in powder. For a 4gn load of tg would cost .00805 or $8.05 per 1000. another plus is the amount. with 7000 gns a pound you would have to have two tg to load 2000 rnds with the rex you would have plenty left.

Let me get back on subject. I guess my question would be is how clean is the powder and how does it preform in handgun loads. I load 9mm 38special and 40sw. I assume that is may be similar to other flake powders that have dual purpose. I have stocked up on 9mm and 38 brass and have a couple of buckets of ww awaiting a new life as a booliet. (still waiting on lee molds to arrive and wheather to clear up for smelting into ingots). Any other recomendation on where to buy powder/primers.
As much info thatis on this site i bet that the answer is there ( please be nice)

I cannot say for handgun, but my dad was given a 4 ounce bottle of rex powder. If I remember right, he loaded a few rounds for the shotgun. It was so dirty he burnt the rest on the driveway.

I have used rex2 and 3 for 38 special and 45 acp and find both very consistent. easy to measure on my lyman 55 measure. Not any dirtier than bullseye or unique.

I haven't heard how dirty it is but I live within 45 minutes of both Miway and Grafs (yeah i know it has it's advantages) and I am definately going to try some as it is way cheaper than anything else.

I have been very pleased with Rex powder in 38, 9mm and 45ACP loads. I have gotten very good groups and it seems to be pretty clean burning too.

Years ago, I had a particularly dirty pound of Red Dot, after shooting trap left the forcing cone caked with unburnt powder. That caused me to switch to 700X. I finally finished it off by using it in 45ACP where it burned clean as a whistle. A few years later I tried another pound of Red Dot which burned clean in 12ga and handgun both.

The point is, it may have been a slow lot, or maybe just needed a little bit more pressure. There's only about 5K PSI difference between 12 ga and .45, but apparently it was enough. If a powder doesn't work for you, try it in something else, or give it away, you never know what may happen.
