I am wanting to buy the RCBS 270 SAA, but I notice it is supposed to drop a .454. All my 45's have .452 throats and I would like to size them to .452 in my Lyman 4500. Is .454 too large to size to .452? Or would I be better off to call Veral and have one of his authentic Keith moulds cut to .452?

Thanks,
Thomas

Thomas, 0.002 overage is nowhere too much with a large diameter boolit. For a 22, yes, 0.002 is way too much percentage wise in terms of boolit destruction possibilities. ... felix

Go on ahead and get the RCBS mold. I believe that you'd like it.

I have the RCBS 270 SAA mold and size it to .452 all the time. This is one of the best if not THE best bullet out of my Ruger Bisley. Great bullet and I don't see any problem sizing down to .452.

My Ruger New Vaquero loves that mold and I size it to .452 as well.

We are putting together a MiHec Brass two cavity Cramer Style H. P. mould. It will produce bullets at .454" (really the preferred "drop from the mould" size when done with WW's, IMO) if you are interested.

Here is the discussion thread if you are anyone else is interested:

Here is what the mould will look like (this is the just received H&G #503 for the .44's):

The price will be very little more than a two cavity RCBS mould. Further, it will cast two different hollow point bullets OR solid point bullets just by reversing one set of pins (they are easily removable).

.002 sizing is no problem, I used to size .459 boolits for the 45/70 down to .454 for my ruger 45 Colt a lot with good results, before I became prosperous enough to buy a mold for it.... :redneck: :cbpour:
