I'm jonsing for Marlin 336 in 35 Remington and would like to cast bullets for it.
I have nearly zero experience with casting bullets but have questions.

Would a gas check bullet be necessary?
Can anyone recommend a mould?

GC's are sometimes easier to get to shoot better quicker.

RCBS 35 200 is a good on to start with.

My Experience only -

If you have a Micro Goove Barrel from Marlin it will want a Gas Checked Boolit to do it's best.

as far as recommending a Bullet mould watch the for sale section

...........In addition to the RCBS, the Saeco #356 is a great 200gr FNGC.

I shoot Lyman #358430, 358311 in my Rem. m-14 both plain base, ACWW,without leading and pretty good accuracy. I have also shot a couple different semi wadcutter pistol bullets with good accuracy, but had to single load as they won't feed. As long as your bullets fit your barrel and you keep reasonable velocity, plain base ACWW should do fine.

The Lyman 358315 shoots great in my Marlin microgroove. It's a 204 grain gas check boolit. Most any .38 caliber handgun boolit can be used for plinking too.

Go to the "favorite loads" forum, look and ask for loads for a 35 Rem in a Marlin, also go to the link above and ask to buy 25 or so of the bullets from the molds listed above.
Since you are just starting out,and the weather looks crappy everywhere this weekend read, read, :coffee: ,read, read , :coffee:, ect.
Also, give the bore on the Marlin A VERY GOOD CLEANING, lead and copper , espically in a micro groove barrel go together about as well as wifes & girlfriends [smilie=b:

The RCBS 35-200-FN is an excellent shoice for the .35 Rem. It is accurate and deadly on game, especially when cast soft and HP'd with a Fortser HP tool.

The GC is necessary if you want accuracy at the .35s potential.

goat, Welcome to the forum!
And I will chime in on the RCBS-200gr. gc.
It is a great shooter out of 2 of the Marlins
I have tried.
But I WD my boolets and give them the JPW+
my own lube.:lovebooli

I got a Marlin 336 in .35 Rem. w/microgroove barrel. It shot jacketed bullets well, I got a RCBS .35 200 mold and tried boolits, with poor results. I found there was no freebore ahead of the chamber, and the lands were pushing the boolit back into the case so the gascheck was below the shoulder/neck junction. I got a .35 throating reamer from Midway, carefully reamed the throat so the gascheck was just above the shoulder/neck junction with the front driving band touching the lands on a chambered round. This worked well, as it now shoots boolits as well as it does bullets.

It will group +- 1" at 100 yd. with either one. I use SPG lube and AAC5744 powder for about 1650 fps with boolits, and W748 for 2150 fps with 200 gr. bullets. Blue Dot also works well with boolits.

As stated before, make sure the bore is cleaned well after using bullets kjk

You can firelapp the bore to smooth out the machine marks and constrictions and it slightly lengthens and reduces the angle of the throat. My custom mold was maybe a little too snug in the bore-rider untill I lapped the barrel on my marlin. Now it has light engraving and seals perfect with no leading at all.I have a post of it in the leverguns section. It is accurate even with air-cooled WW.

I agree with Larry Gibson's post about the RCBS 200 grain flatnose with the following exceptions: I always use gaschecks on mine, and see no reason to hollowpoint them. Even when cast relatively soft, I don't get any leading in my Marlin. I'm shooting them at an estimated 1600-1700 FPS (don't have a chrony). They haven't bounced off anything living so far.
