I need suggestions for .30-06, 8x57, .45acp and .38 special; I'll be ordering from bartlett. I want a powder that i can use for full power circa 2200fps loads in 8x57, .30-06 Ideally, a powder that is similar to 4895 for use in the garand. I also want a powder that I can use for reduced loads in the rifle cartridges.

Dan, Bartlett has 4895. For reduced rifle I would say either WC680, which is in the SR4759--4198 burn range territory or WC820. For .45 ACP and .38 Special maybe AL8 which Bartlett says to use Blue Dot data. Just my thoughts...Ray

Dan, here's my results in my 20" barrel 8x57 Turk 38 with surplus 4895 from Hi-Tech. Your results will vary, so reduce and work up. Cases = neck-sized R-P; primers = CCI 200.

Speer 200 gr SP: 44.5 = 2340 fps

Rem 185 SP: 45.0 = 2395

Sierra 175 Spitzer: 47.5 = 2537

Hornady 150 SP: 49.5 = 2765

Here's the same rifle, same cases, same primers BUT with WC 860 & Lyman #323471 @ 220 grs RTL:

Range = 50 yards.

49.2 grs/3.4cc WC 860 = 3 shots = 3/4"

AV = 1554 fps; ES = 39; SD = 19

Over 1600 fps and it shot all over the target. Groups grew progressively worse as powder charge/velocity increased from 49.2 grs/3.4cc 1554 fps.
