Buckweet was wonderin how my brass frame was progressing so here is a few pics of what I have so far. The barrel is a 20gauge barrel that is just being used to hold the forearm up for the pic as I have not inletted it yet. This one will likely wear a recycled 1/48 inch twist cva barrel for use with the BRP 275Gr maxihunter clone. This stock is recycled from a 1pc mauser "ROUGH FIREWOOD DUPLICATOR PRACTICE" stock that was given to me by a dear friend. Still alot of work to do, but here it is thus far.

Got one started just about the same progess as yours you may be slightly ahead. The biggest problem that I see right now is that the nipple looks to need to be angled back slightly to match the arch of the hammer have you had any problems with that?

I have not had any issues. This may sound wrong to you but it worked for me on a few skinny barrels that "looked" wrong in the angle of the dangle.

Dry fire it until it smooshes the nipple to the right angle....then clean it up with a file until the cap is tight yet goes on with mild resistance. I ended up with a slightly tapered nipple and have had zero issues on several barrels. Maybe not the perfect solution...but it works perfect.

I slant them to line up with the hammer.

A good way to figure out where to drill.

Drilling it at the right angle, same setup to use an endmill so the nipple has a flat shoulder to tighten against

Hey, I think I like the look of that round barrel on the underhammer!
I've thought about how that would look, but couldn't quite get a good mental picture of it to be sure I'd like it.

I also like that brass action with the brown steel look. I'd bet that would look good with a osage orange or zebrawood stock on it. I'm not usually much on schnabel-style forends either, but that one adds some class to the round barrel! Hum-m-m-m? More ideas! And I THOUGHT I had a good plan locked in.....:groner:

Thanks John T. thats pretty much what I had in mind,

I'm with you Charlie Sometimes wasn't sure about a round barrel but I think it looks OK and I know what all those new ideas mean ==== more money, oh well you can't take it with you.

If the hawken is a TC or lyman or such sell it. Now if it's a custom job hand made might be a different matter. I really like the switch barrel deal get a little bored with one pull it put on another, take a couple to the range and shoot em all. Make some long some short some big some little, I happen to have several barrels from other projects and some old ones that I am going to recycle into new life. Some of these were shot a lot I mean thousands and thousands of times and were wore out, maybe, didn't shoot as well as they use to anyway so I've cut both ends off rebreeched and cut a new crown and hopefully get some more life out of them, we'll see how this works out.

Yep, Thompson Center rifles. The 54 shoots really good, haven't shot the 45 enough yet, but it has potential. I REALLY LIKE THE UNDERHAMMERS BEST. I will study hard on this now! :bigsmyl2:

twotoesCharlie I have thought about that I have done that on side locks before but you can remove the hammer and heat and bend whatever. I was a little worried about the heat treated area where the hammer engages the trigger. And kind of looked that over if you change barrel diameters that could cause a alignment problem again. Don't know just going slow and cautious it's still winter cold and nasty snow on the ground and more comming. I think I'll go get one of them super duper laser varmit guns and go kill something might make me feel better.

I don't switch barrels, I have a .36, .50, .62 cal each has its own reciever.
the .62 is a hoot to shoot.
