Rifle scabbard

Would like to make indian style scabbard for my sharps rifle
does anyone have patterns or suggestions as to where to start?

Here's one I did a few years ago. I use paper to make the pattern. Lay the rifle on, and fold it over to get a basic idea. Don't make it too snug! Most I have made, have been two piece, joined just around the action area.
