Hello all,

I just received what I think was a pretty good deal on some 95/5 solder bought of ebay. It was kind of a last minute impulse buy since there were no other bidders. 5 rolls of 95/5 solder, 5 lbs per roll for abot $31 shipped. From what I've seen on tin prices, $1.20 per lb, delivered, sounds pretty good.

Received the solder today and it is as advertised.

Did I do OK?

Thanks,

Joe

Tin bars at rotometals are about $10 /lb
EDIT: just looked it up, make that $12/ lb

My local hardware store wants $20 / 1 lb roll of 95/5 solder ( no thanks)

I'm sure if you offered that on the swappin & sellin section at $5 / lb you would sell it all in an hour (or less!)

that's beyond good, it's almost free!

Last year I managed to find 3 rolls at different estate sales for less then a buck apiece. The people that run those sales just want the garages empty, so they take most anything for rolls of solder.

I would say that you did very well. That should last you a while -- that should add 2% tin to over 1200 lbs of lead.

I just melted a 5 lb roll into very small ingots -- I scooped up most of the rosin that floated without trying to burn it off, and burned off what I couldn't scoop.

Thanks all for the info. Sounds like it was a pretty good deal. For some reason, that little voice in my head kept telling me it was too good to be true, especially since nobody else bid on the stuff. Now that I have it in hand, I'm a happy camper!

At the rate I go through tin, I'm set for quite a while. Probably won't sell any of it because every time I do something like that I end up kicking myself down the road for doing it.

Good deal!

I bought all the 63/37 solder I could afford last year for around $2.20/lb and I was happy to get it!
