Now that i've responded to a post, I guess I better introduce myself.
I've been lurking here for quite some time trying to learn a thing or two about casting. My major aim is to cast pistol bullets so I can afford to go to the range and shoot more often. I've got access to WW in an amount that should keep me shooting as much as my limited amount of time will allow so I figured I'd learn to turn them into boolits on the cheap and see where it takes me.
Mostly I'm a hunter. I transplanted from my more or less native Maryland to Wyoming and I ain't planning on leaving.

Welcome and glad you like it here. I spend a couple weeks for work in the valley each summer. Did the Etna town well inspections this past summer. Where abouts in the area are you located? Have you walked up to hte Afton Periodic Spring yet? If not you should try to get up there, and if you can walk up to the psring issuance itself.

I haven't seen the Wyoming friends thread, and yes I have been to the periodic spring, all the way up to the opening. I live in Nordic Ranches.

If you want to start pistol bullets cheaply, the Lyman Master casting kit is a good start. The lubrisizer is approximately the price of the whole kit so, it's a pretty good deal. Then it just takes sizer dies, top punches and shellholders to get you into pistol bullets. I shoot TC Contenders with pistol AND rifle calibers. The Interchangeable barrels keep me looking for things all the time. Recently did 9mm and now looking into 41 Remington Magnum for a New Model Blackhawk.

Hope that helps,
Ron

And, oh yeah, welcome to the forum!

Snake River Marksman,

I was in your neighborhood also. Did Nordic Ranches water well inspection last summer.

The periodic spring is pretty impressive. Also some very nice area on the Grays River. And the hike over the mountain to Big Piney (Cheese Pass and McDougal Pass) is a great drive in July thru September.

How much snow do you have on the ground at the moment?

How long have you lived in Etna area?

I've lived in Etna since summer of 2005.
We're low on Snow this year. We're running about 60% of normal which amounts to about 2' more or less.

I had heard from some of my coworkers over in your area that it has been cold and less snow to this point. Take care over there.

Blammer,
I'll be casting for the usual suspects: 9MM, 40 S&W, 45ACP, 38/357
I've got a single cavity Lee mould that was given to me and I've been casting 357 bullets with it while I wait for my ingots to cool enough to drop them from the mould. I made the ingot mould out of angle iron. It's far from perfect, but it works. I need to get all the other moulds and a set of reloading dies for the 40 S&W.

Welcome aboard, Snake River Marksman! You chose a gorgeous part of our country to live in, for sure. Marie and I have been up your way trout fishing, and it has been entirely too long since the last trip.

You can do a lot worse than to try the Lee truncated-cone designs for the autopistol calibers. They are affordable, and the boolits produced work VERY well in my pistols. I use the designs with conventional lube grooves, not the TumbleLube variants.
