Hey guys thinking of building new shooter for cast only. I believe I want a 30BR are any of you shooting one. What boolit weight and twist do you use, or is this a pipe dream. I have a lot of good 30 cal molds would like to run about 2200 fps shoot 100 and 200 yards Let me know what you think..

My CZ 527 in 7.62x39 is a sub=MOA shooter with jacketed, and can tickle a MOA with the NEI 155 bullet sized to .313" and pushed down the bore with 2400.

I don't have a 30 BR, but my 308x1.5 sure shoots well. Has enough case capacity to pass 2400 fps with a 150 grain bullet easily.

Stupid question, is the 30 BR a 6mmBR case necked up to 30 cal?

CWME,
That is correct 30 BR is a necked up 6mm br or 7mm br necked up to 30. I am checking on brass to see how easy it is to find. That could make choice easier. What is the 308 x1.5 brass being made from?

Interesting, have the 6br and am astonished at the accuracy of this round. Going to the 30BR as you mentioned would alow you to use your existing 30 cal molds...

Gotta see if I can find a new barrel for the Savage f-class. Only shooting jacketed stuff in the 6BR for clarification.

The 30BR must be a funny looking round with a 30 cal bullet stuffed into it... Looks funny with a 6mm bullet=)

Kirb:

308x1.5 brass is made from the very exotic 308M federal brass once fired from my TRG21...

Seriously, that is why I went with the 308x1.5 - it is simply a shortened 308 Winchester or 7.62x51 case.

You can take case prep as far as you want. I usually use commercial brass. I push the shoulder back, trim, ream the necks & fireform.

BR brass is not cheap, and can be hard to find sometimes. I have an AR15 chambered in 7BR, and finally just made cases on my 308x1.5 tooling.

CWME, if you go on 6mmBR.com you will find a lot of info on both 6mmBR and 30BR. I have been thinking of loading cast boolits for my Encore that I have 6mmBR, 6.5mmBR, and 7mmBR barrels. I am not finding any cast info for the 6.5mmBR and very little for the 6mmBR, but their is a lot on the 7mmBR.

Perfect velocity, perfect boolit size for the application. Just to be different, go to 323 size boolits with 16 twist barrel with 0.005 lands, odd number like 5 or 7 preferred with a very small continuous choke. ... felix

To get what you're looking for I'd run a 30 BR with a 14 twist barrel and a bullet about an inch or a bit longer. The RCBS Sil. or Saeco 315 would be a good start. Brass is easy to form out of either 6 BR or 7 BR (if you can find it) and it'll last forever. You could probably get away with a no turn neck and it would be a good idea to run a .310 x 1 1/2 degree throat cut so the bullet is well out of the neck and into the throat when chambered. If you're seriously looking into doing something like this go over to the CBA , not the forum, website and look over the match reports and records to see what's being done. You might change your mind about wanting to shoot 2200 fps after seeing what people are doing at lower velocities. Here's links both to the site and to the match reports. The matches are archived by year so go through some of the older ones to get a lot more loading and equipment information.

When I was shooting my 6.5 PPC I was using 24 grs of H4350 behind a 170 gr bullet from a mould I cut at 1750 fps. Shot pretty well at 100 but took a beating at 200 yds if the wind was up. You could start at the same charge of powder and work up for the BR case.
