My lady freind wants to go shooting with her Girl freinds Sat
So she ask me to pick her up 2 boxs of 380 ball ammo

Called the local gun shop
He only had 2 boxs of HP

Stoped into Wallyworld on the way home ....non
Called 3 other gunshops
1 place had 1 box for $25.99 a 50 rnd box for Winchester white box ( USA )

Looked , I have a few hundred 100 gr cast bullets sized under the bench
Guess she will have to run the Dillon later if she wants to go shooting

But where in the world is all the normaly priced 380 going ?

According to the local gun stores, the most popular caliber around here for the last 4 years has been the 380.

They go through pallets every week.

not the last four years...the last year!
when all them "change" people woke up..they bought..and they bought 380's and black rifles.

i have commercial reloaders that pay retail for my once fired brass...so they can reload it.

Everybody and his girlfriend bought a Keltec P3AT or Ruger LCP in the last few years,
needs some ammo for practice and carry. Apparently the caliber was very low consumption before
that and the caliber was manufactured on the 9mm lines for a short period each year.
Nowdays, they need their own line, or at least a much longer run, BUT 9mm is being consumed
in mass quantities, so no time to take the line down and switch to 380. . . . .

I've got some brand new Lee .380 ACP dies for sale. :-)

Course, you'll need primers. . . . . . . . . :-(

Local store here has about 20 boxes of Rem 380 ball at $39.95/50. I think he's going to have them a while, at that price.

Cast and Load fella's.

I make it a point to be as self-sufficient in all calibers that I own.

When I saw the Muslim Messiah gaining momentum, I snagged a couple of moulds suitable for .380--my favorite being the Lee 102RN. I already had a good stash of .380 brass, but my motto is that when it comes to guns, supplies and equipment, one can never have neither enough or too much.

Fortunately, my wife absolutely agrees.

We have all the .380ACP ammo we need. I also had several boxes of jacketed ball ammo and some HP in one of the cabinets under the bench, so we have jacketed ammo as well.

.380 ammo has been MIA for about a year now. The only time I see it anymore is at gun shows. It seems that someone usually has a little Wolf steel case ammo. Somebody else has a little Aguila that got brought up from Mexico somehow & then there is a stray box of something else here & there. Prices are always sky high. Guys were selling used .380 BRASS for $30/100.

If you had asked me 10 years ago, I would have said that I didn't think the .380 was worth loading for. These days, its a very different story.

The Lee 105 grain SWC & 102 grain RN both work very well in most .380s with 3 grains of Bullseye.

Folks,

I went to a gun show in Kentucky about two weeks ago. There was an individual there selling .380 ammo...Winchester white box, 95 grain RN. He had several cases of it. It was going for $50.00 per box of fifty rounds! He had buyers stacked up waiting to buy that ammo.

I have 2 - 380's and about 500 rds of loaded ammo and close to 300 rds of empty brass. I have been scrounging brass for years and try to have a min of 500 for each caliber I own and more if I have more than one gun. Same with 32 auto, 32 S&W, 32 Long, 32 Mag etc...

I needed some .32 ACP for the wife's Beretta so went to the little gunshop just south of town. He had a new shipment in and I got the Remington FMJ load for $20.00. His .380 was about the same price, this was a couple weeks ago.

I just started loading for the little bugger. I had no trouble getting 500 95gr rn from Missouri Bullet. Don't cast those yet, and got them for $24 in less than a week, hardly worth casting at that price. Also scored 500 new cases from Starline in under two weeks. Now gotta get more of those pesky primers.

I have friends who don't reload/cast that own 380's. I think I'm going to have to get some dies and a mould. The smallest 38/9mm mould I have is 125 gr. I wonder if anyone has tried loading round ball with any sucess?

Just got the latest American Rifleman. Note the 380 article! Supply and demand!!!!!
Not my cup of tee, or what I want to reload or shoot, but then I don't have or want one. Article notes malfunctions until the 380's are well broken in. Wonder how many will put a hundred or more thru the new ones to break them in befor having them as their security or back up weapon.

John,

I don't own a 380 myself, but when certain things get way out of hand, word does get out. 380 ammo has been on the top of the charts (so to speak) for at least a yr. The last gun show I went to 380 ammo was priced @ $70 / 50. That said, you now can relate more to my initial comment.

BTW, its hard enough to reload them little 9mm cases. I can't imagine 380's and I have a progressive - for whatever thats worth.

All the best!

My friend was at the gun show here in Phoenix today. He said there was plenty of 380 ammo and primers.I didn't ask the price on ammo, but primers are about $22 for Wolf LR, $32 for Win.

He also said parking was $10 and admission $14, $24 to get in the door!

With my meat hooks for hands
9MM is not always fun
380 is a challange
:holysheep 32 and 25 are dangerous for my fingers :groner:

So I refuse to load them , as I would probely draw blood way to often

I went shopping with my wife yesterday, which included three WalMarts in Amarillo and one in Pampa:veryconfu. No 380 or 9mm and very little else. Saw one fellow and his son buy 6 boxes each of 223 and 30-06, even though the sign said limit one box per. No 22 in any store except some shorts and target loads (@ 7.95). All the prices made me happy I cast and reload.

Being a bit of a smart-**** ...

This last weekend as I wandered my local gunshow and Cabela's I didn't see any .380 ACP, but I saw plenty of

9mm Corto
9mm Kurz
9mm Browning Short

all about $15.00 a box.

They'll work for you. [smilie=s:

Based on two visits to Cabelas when they first open in the morning last week, (I know, statistically worth zilch), they put out a few boxes of Federal .380 boxes of 50 for $18.xx daily.

Dang, guess when I was at the gun show two weeks ago I should have bought his 380 stuff to reload. 950 new cases and 700 fmj bullets for $110. Don't reload for it, so I didn't. Have a 380, but never shoot it

I load for the 380... Although I do have a few rounds on hand for use when I carry it. I prefer the 358242 95g... My Bersa loves it.

I do need to get some brass tho. I have enough for about 1 box at a time. I think I have 60 +/- on hand...

A guy that works next door to me buys 10 boxes of winchester 380 from Sportsman Warehouse every month for $19 a box. He is friends with the manager of the local store.
It appears he gets a phone call on the day the truck arrives. The manager holds the 10 boxes (which btw is the MONTH supply of 380 for that store) and even gives him a 10% off employee discount.

I was at the local gun store (@ 3 miles from my work) yesterday and they didn't have any 380 at all on the shelves. I asked my good friend that works there if he had any 380. He walked into the back and carried 1 box out under his arm, hidden from view. He said here put this in your pocket. I went to the register. It cost $24.99 for the box of 50 winchester

OK...I admit it.....it's all my fault! I bought some 10,000 380 cases a few years back and cast with a 10 cavity Hensley & Gibbs S55 mould. Those little Mac M11A1 380 submachine guns are a bear to feed!

Hoarder! Shades of WWII rationing.

....and damn proud of it. Shooting submachine guns with cast bullets, you learn to buy in bulk. WW's, powder by the case (of 8 lb jugs), primers in 10,000 lots, brass in 5-10,000 lots, etc.
Hoarder? You bet I am....out of necessity.

I just have a cheap 380 but when the ammo price jumped I just happened upon a few hundred pieces of brass real cheap and snapped them up. Not gonna pay .80 to $1 a round for a cartridge I can load for about .08 per round.

Natchez has it for $19.99, better than the $30 I see local - but with shipping, have to order a bunch. Reloading is tghe way to go, but gotta generate brass first ! And the loss rate on the little buggers is high....
