I've been using the Lee bullet with about 15.5 grains of old 2400.

I have been using 2 loads that are very accurate in my CZ-527. Both loads use a 165 grain boolit from a Mountain Mould, one is 28 grains of surplus 4895 and the other is 25 grains of WC-844. 25 grains of 844 also did well with 311466. -JDL

Sheesh...where do you want to start?

I traded for a Ruger M77 MkII in 7.62x39 a couple years back, and to date have loaded (with varying degrees of success): 311466, 311413, LEE 180, 311299, 311334, LEE 130, 311291 (two different moulds), RCBS 7.62-130, LEE 312-155, .30 HBC....

My rifle has a groove diameter of .3105", incidentally.

The RCBS 7.62-130 was the very WORST of the bunch. I've stopped even trying it in this rifle. Among the best loads tried are:

311291, 170 grains, WW sized .312", with 24.0 grains of surplus 4895, speed 1690 fps and grouping ten rounds in 1.0 inches at 50 yards;

311466, 150 grains, WW, .312", with 22.0 IMR 4320, 1582 fps and 0.9" for ten rounds at 50 yards......23.0 of 4320 (1689 fps) put 8 rounds into 0.5" at fifty, but with a couple of flyers;

311466,.312", 25.0 surplus 4895, 1663 fps, 0.7" for ten rounds at 50;

311299 (210 grains), .312, 22.0 IMR 4831, 1310 fps, 0.8" for ten from fifty yards

In non-autoloaders such as yours and mine, it's possible to use all sorts of powders not normally recommended in the 7.62x39. I've used such critters as IMR 4831, IMR 4350, IMR 4320, Unique, 2400, 4198, IMR 4064, surplus and commercial 4895, Blue Dot.... many things are possible!

It's an enjoyable cartridge to use with cast bullets, with little in the way of noise, recoil, or cost to discourage us. Enjoy!

..............I found nirvana with my 7.62x39 small ring bolt action with the Lee C312-155-2R and 28.0grs of surplus 4895. It's a bit slower then canister 4895 so for H or IMR you might to try 24.0grs and work up a half grain at a time. My velocity from a 22" bbl is 1950 fps and extremely accurate. Crimped into the crimp groove.

This below is from a friend of mine and a board member here:

It's a Saeco cast 20-1. Results are below:

Venison hanging is always the best indicator of a load's utility. Splashed rats are good too, but a distant second nonetheless.

The 7.62 x 39 Soviet is to present-day shooters what the 30 U.S. Carbine was to my Dad's generation--an affordable option to shoot and plink with, with the added benefit of increased power and accuracy potential over the Carbine round. I would say the caliber is every bit as deer-capable as the 30-30 WCF.

Looked at my LEE powder measures and found a measure for 22 grains of IMR-4895, so i loaded up some winchester and old czech steel cases i had in a can.

I'm more than a little ticked that that rifle is not allowed on the US market. I love my CZ 527 but it was twice the price of the Norinco. Shouldn't complain because it is the most cast bullet friendly rifle I have ever owned.

I've several loads (cast and jacketed) for 7.62x39 that I use in an older MK X Mini Mauser (Yugo made). With the Lee 155 gr cast bullet I use 27 gr H4895 for 1860 fps out of the 20" barrel with consistant 2 MOA accuracy at 100 yards. Bullets are cast of WWs and loaded in R-P cases that take a WSR primer. My rifle sports a 4X scope and has a .311 bore with 9.5" twist. Sorry but I've not worked with 4227 or 4759 with the Lee bullet because the H4895 load is so good I've not seen fit to test anything else. However, I consider 4227 as "THE" powder for use with 100 to 125 gr jacketed bullets but that's another story. I'm woking on a load with a .311 Lyman 311041HP cast of water quenched 3-5% antimony shot alloy for deer hunting. I will report on the load if successful.

Its here....:-) put a bushnell 4 power sportview on it to start with and tryed some pmc ,federal, norinco and czech factory ammo in it. Put them all in the same hole at 25, but then i noticed that the scope was moving forward:shock: rings need to be laped or something so i put my 1 power red dot on it today with different rings.
Will try some cast this week...

Scotty, a quick and easy fix for your creeping scope is to dust the inside of the rings with some powdered rosin. A baseball pitchers rosin bag would give you what you need.
