First the June issue of Shooting times has an article and pictures on the 1885 Remington Lee Military Rifle in 45-70 caliber. Interesting rifle. New is FN has a semi-auto pistol out with a round I think Curmudge wrote about one time and that is the 5.7x28. For Deputy Al there is the new Sig Arms Mosquito which is a look alike version of the P226, only about 90 percent the size and it's in 22 rimfire. Taurus has a 1911 out called the PT1911. Also there's an article in Shooting Times where the 17 versus the 22 mag in rimfires. Final diagnosis, one which I predicted when the 17 first come out, is the 22 mag beats it all the ways around. Layne Simpson the only thing the 17 is good for is shooting varmints smaller then the praire dog such as ground squirrels and praire dogs and that anyone that shoots coyotes or fox with the 17 in his opinion is irresponsible. For those of you that have recently been talking about the LEE NO.5 Jungle Carbine, June issue of G&A has shooting test on one. Also in G&A is the new Benelli replica of the 1873 Sporting Winchester in 45 LC chambering. Also an article on 44 mag in handgun and Marlin Model 94, plus an article on Model 92 Winchesters.

But to me the most amazing thing out new is from Barnes Bullet Co., and they call it the Banded Bullet and it looks almost exactly like Oldfellers 8mm cast design, almost a loverin except the bands are fewer , little wider, and has a longer nose. How about that, jacketed bullet have come full circle almost.

This is Joe Starmetal.....Have a good day.

The best source I know on the American Lee is Eugene Myszkowski's "The Remington-Lee Rifle" (Excalibur Publications, Latham NY, 1994.) It should still be available (e.g. through www.bookfinder.com), and is inexpensive as gun collecting books go.
