Lucked up on a NEW Ruger #1B at a local Gander Mountain the other day !

This one is in the no longer chambered 338 WIN MAG !

Rifle is new but they have lost the box and the rings !

They also had the rifle on "Clearance Sale" at about $275 below WHOLESALE if they were still making the 338 WIN MAG !

Anyway for $275 I can get another set of rings and forget about the box !

This thing will also make a nice 2010 Xmas present for my pop since he likes #1's quite a bit !

The cost is $275 BELOW what dealer cost is for a new rifle !

Or about $500 !

So with the rings I ordered yesterday from our distributers I'll have about $575 in the gun with the new rings !

The wood on this rifle is nothing to get overly excited about !

However it does have a slight amount of figure on this one side !

On a lesser note , while I was at Gander Mountain picking this one up my buddy who owns the gunsmith shop called me and told me we had a nice USED Riger #1H in 458 WIN MAG coming in that he thought I could get for about the same price as this !

So you can imagine my answer when he said "are you intrested" ?

We have 4 or 5 others that make the wood in that one look plain !

I also have an extra set of wood that looks a bit better ! I just might switch the stocks and forends this week .

Great price on a great caliber. I fell in love with a Ruger #1 in 450-400 down at a local dealer. I can't touch it for what you lucked into on price. I haven't got a practical (sorry about the "P" word) reason to have one but have allways wanted a #1 and the 450-400 is way up on the cool scale. I could play with .41 mag pistol bullets all the way up to 400grain elephant stompers. Don't have many elephants here in Oregon but you never can be too prepared. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

For Xmas 2009 I gave my father a really nice #1H in 416 REM MAG ! Now he doesn't shoot them he just sorta collects . And this 416 has a piece of wood that willl literally knock your eye out in my somewhat biased opinion !

I also gave him a #1B for fathers day in 270 Weatherby with another killer piece of wood !

In a weak moment Xmas day 2009 I gave him a second rifle I had set aside to give him this upcoming fathers day . That was another #1B in 300 Weatherby and this one also has a better then usual piece of wood !

Anyway after I look over the #1H in 458 and make a decision I think next on the leist are older 1B's in 25-06 , 7mm REM MAG and 300 WIN MAG . Also wanna get a nice older 1A in 7x57 and possibly a nice 1B in 204 Ruger !

We already have a nice 1V in 22-250AI that was rebarreled with a Lilja barrel ao I have seriouse thoughts of finding a old beater 30-06 or 270 1B and making a 6.5-06 out of it !

On somewhat of a side note !

I have a Ruger #1H in 458 WIN MAG coming wednesday from another dealer we do buisness with !

Also just picked up a like new set of RCBS 458 dies ! 40 pieces of new 458 brass as well as another 40 or so rounds of handloaded 458 ammo . And last but not least a bunch of Speer 400 grain bullets and half a box of Hornady 500 grain soft points !

And got that all for the measley sum of $100 !

Oh yeah the dies and brass for the 338 WIN MAG arrived friday !

Gonna load up some stuff for the 338 WIN MAG and 300 Weatherby tommorrow !

Then tuesday afternoon another friend and I are going to the range !

Gonna shoot my pops 1B in 270 Weatherby , my pops 1H in 416 REM MAG , his 1B in 300 Weatherby and this 1B in 338 WIN MAG I've not given him yet !

Went to the range last tuesday with the rifles mentioned above and all went well enough for a first try !

And before you ask everything mentioned are jacketed only propositions !

My pop and I are going in the AM to another shop sorta close to us that has a decent looking #1B in 25-06 for sale !

Scrounged around in my loading room last night and found my 25-06 RCBS dies , about 60 pieces of used WW 25-06 brass and 40 pieces of brand new brass I had failed to use in my last 25-06 !
I take this as a sign ;)

Incidently the other dealer who was supposed to bring the #1H in 458 WIN MAG has not shown yet although he called and said he's still bringing it ! If he doesn't hurry I may loose intrest in the brute !

Now you need a 30-40 Krag No.1S, or perhaps a bolt action M77MKII Express Rifle in 25-06 to go with it....... they are out there somewhere. A friend has one of the 30-40's, and another friend has a pair of No. 1A's in .250-3000. I heard again the other night from a good source that both the 30-30, and 30-40 Krag are going to be production items this year sometime, but I don't know which model they will come in yet. I had also heard .303 British too, but haven't confirmed that.

I had a chance a number of years ago for a NIB #3 in 30-40 could have had the gun for $185 ! Shoulda got that one !

I have never cared for the 77 MK-II .

I'm more inclined to be looking for the #1V in 22 and 6mm PPC also the #1B in 6.5mm REM MAG would be nice . They supposedly made a #1 in 264 WIN MAG also that would be nice as well !

Yes, the 30-40, 375 Win, .357mag, etc. were all production run guns in the No. 3 line, as were the No. 1's that you are interested in. They should show up if you are patient.

I'm looking for rifles in calibers I want to use ! I like the 375 WIN in a lever action but aren't to worried about it anylonger in a single shot , same for the 30-40 anymore !

I may eventually get a #1S in a 45-70 if I can find a nice older one with nice wood .
Actually my dad sorta collects these things so I buy them for him and then shoot them . And if I give them to him I can't sell or trade them off when I egt tired of them !

Incidently he purchased the Ruger #1B today in the 25-06 . Isn't exactly what they represented it at but nice enough gun nontheless ! Got it for about $200 below the cost of a new one at dealer cost .

The shop that had this rifle also had a Ruger #1A Craig Bottinton Special in 7x57 ! Now that thing was a jewell but at $1250 it should be !
I'd like to have a nice used #1A in 7x57 , but it isn't going to be one of the "Special Edition" things !

There is a really nice Ruger #1B in 6.5mm REM MAG for sale on Gunbroker right now ! Supposedly unfired but without the box . Not even sure if the rings are still with it !

Anyway the guys starting bid on this one is about $2,750 !

I want one of those but thats about twice what I'd be willing to pay !

Saw a supposedly NIB #1V in 6mm PPC on Gunsinternational , the guy wants $1,600 for that one agin about $400-500 more then I would be willing to pay !
